She was born in Par… Read Full Bio ↴Yaël Naïm is a French-Israeli singer and songwriter.
She was born in Paris in 1978 to Jewish-Tunisian parents. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Ramat HaSharon, Israel, where she learned Hebrew and trained as a pianist. She served in the Israel Defence Forces as a soloist in the Israeli Air Force Orchestra. She began her singing career with a part in the musical "Les Dix Commandements," and her first solo album, In A Man's Womb, was released in 2001. According to a Songfacts interview with her, it disappointed Yael, who decided she would be much happier giving up her dreams of stardom and making music on her terms.
She also sang the song "You Disappear" by Bruno Coulais for the film Harrison's Flowers directed by Elie Chouraqui. For her early work she was credited simply as Yaël.
Naïm joined forces with percussionist David Donatien, and over a period of two years they arranged and recorded thirteen of Naïm's songs in a studio in Naïm's own appartment in Paris, and these were released as her second album, Yael Naim, in the fall of 2007 on the Tôt Ou Tard label. The songs are in French, English, and Hebrew and received critical acclaim, and the album entered the French album chart at #11 the week after its release. The style has been described as having a touch of folk and a touch of jazz, with mysterious and evocative words sung with a delicate and intentionally slightly husky voice.
In January 2008, her song "New Soul" was featured in the debut commercial for the MacBook Air laptop. The song gained fame from being featured in the ad, and it has peaked, as of February 1 2008, at #2 on the iTunes Top 100 Downloaded Songs.

Drifting on the waves
Going with the flow
Then one day
Someone's voice will say
You gotta choose your way
Give it your all
Feeling that I want more
Simply 'cause I am trying to grow
Only I'm trapped in my soul
Feeling that I wanted it all
Simply 'cause I am trying to grow
In my soul and in my love
In my soul and in my love
Then one day
When I had it all
When I got so tall
I was feeling so alone
Seeing my life in grey
Throw it all away
Try to break the wall
Let yourself fall
Only I'm trapped in my soul
Feeling that I'm down on the floor
Simply 'cause I am going to blow
Only I'm trapped in my soul
Knowing that I'm the one responsible
Simply because I am trying to grow
In my soul and in my love
In my soul and in my love
In my soul and in my love
In my soul and in my love
Feeling I'm trapped in my soul
The lyrics of Yael Naim's "Trapped" speak to the struggle of personal growth and the choices we have to make in life to achieve it. The song features a first-person perspective that describes the challenges of being torn between going with the flow and choosing your own path in life. The lyrics capture the pain of feeling trapped in one's own soul and the desire to break free from the limitations that hold them back.
In the opening lines, the singer expresses their hope for salvaging their situation and finding a way to navigate through the turmoil they face. They feel like they are drifting on the waves, lost and unsure of their direction. However, they acknowledge that one day, they will have to make a choice and give it their all to achieve their goals.
The chorus of the song centers around the feeling of being trapped and wanting more from life. The singer feels like their soul is holding them back from reaching their full potential, but they are determined to keep trying to grow and improve themselves. In the second verse, the singer reflects on a time when they felt on top of the world, but also felt alone and unfulfilled. They decide to throw everything away and start over, taking the risk of breaking down the walls holding them back and allowing themselves to fall.
Overall, the lyrics of "Trapped" speak to the universal struggle of personal growth and the emotional toll it can take on someone as they try to find their way. The song is a reminder that we all have the power to break free from our limitations and pursue our dreams, even when it means taking risks and facing uncertainty.

Magnifique chanson. Quelle voix, Yael ! L'accompagnement des 3SomeSisters ajoute à cette perfection, de la même façon avec la chanson Coward et Dream in my head.
