Lights
Yann Tiersen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Have you see those lights, those lights,
First we saw someone was lost,
But no signal on all our screen
Nothing out there no signs of life
A dead ocean, a dead ocean
A one more light, a one more light,
There is something glowing under water all over the sea.

Overall Meaning

These lyrics are from the song "Lights" by Yann Tiersen. The song talks about a mysterious phenomenon of lights seen under the ocean. The first two lines of the song describe how the singer sees some lights and initially thinks that someone might be lost. However, they don't find any signals on their screens, suggesting that there is no one out there. They then realize that this is a dead ocean, with no signs of life. Despite this, they see one more light, which leads them to discover something glowing under the water all over the sea.

The lyrics can be interpreted as a metaphor for the search for meaning in life. The singer sees the lights and initially thinks that there might be something to discover. However, they realize that there is nothing there, suggesting a sense of hopelessness and despair. Despite this, they continue to search and find something that amazes them, indicating that there is more to life than what meets the eye.
