Yano discovered Harakami's work in 2003 and approached him about working together. Harakami had been a fan of Yano's work for a long time and was happy to collaborate with her. The two began working together in 2004 and debuted formally as Yanokami in 2007 with a self-titled album. They concentrated mainly on live performances from 2008 to 2010, playing at both small venues and large festivals.

Harakami died of a cerebral hemorrhage in July 2011. Despite this loss, Yano announced her intention to continue Yanokami. Scheduled performances went on as planned, and their second album was released in December 2011 using what recordings Harakami had completed. Yanokami continues to perform with guest artists including U-Zhaan, Yoshinori Sunahara (砂原良徳), Illreme (イルリメ), and Maki Morishita (森下真樹).

I'm with ya my man. Reminds a lot of "Prince." ei Were he still alive I could 100% see him singing performing this song. The guitar similarities are uncanny, the way on occasion you can't distinguish it from his voice (or vice versa) as they both convey so much raw emotion that's chaotic, almost pleading, but somehow still under control.

Hey I'm 80 and I'm with you all the way on this. I think his best song ever is Gravity, and I've listened to various renditions of it probably a hundred times or more, but this guy is really special and this song made me tear up the first time I heard it not even halfway into it. Mayer used put importance on originality. Now hes just regurgitating a whole decade of boring ideas. I bet the 80s sound is pretty neat to fresh ears. But to the rest of us it's a thousand wrong turns that led to the most excessive decade in the record business.
That solo has almost no relationship to the song other than being mostly in key...typical 80's 🤷‍♂️. Hes John Mayer, his bends shouldnt bush league....

I deeply love Jazz and Blues and listen to it every night while at work. His music is on ab entire new level. It shows through his entire being. John Mayer is his music. Holy smokes, I'm 62 and I'm just really discovering the magic that is John Mayer! Where have I been? Stuck in legend land with James Taylor and CSNY. I play acoustic guitar and sing but just had vocal tumors removed (benign - whew) but I just learned 'Why Georgia' and started learning 'No Such Thing' (that I think is targeted toward high school/early college kids, but I'm stuck!) I gotta learn more! Neon will be a waaaayyy off in the future but this song is Beautiful!, Beautiful! I wish I could see you live in Charlotte but my wife and I will be celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary and funds are tight due to the economy and work, so, I will learn this song and sing it with her...acoustically. I've been listening to JCM since Room for Squares, when I was a mere 30 (? oh god, I'm so old)... But am still blown away whenever I hear anything post-Heavier things. I mean, Jesus, he was already in the pantheon of songwriting with his first couple albums, for chrissakes... But then along comes Continuum and it's like - okay, WTF, is there ANYTHING this man cannot do? Album after album, live performance after live performance, NOPE. Clearly not. Hell, he can even ACT. Erudite as FUCK, a charming bastard to boot. Trying not to be bitter, okay... Some people are just blessed by the cosmos. It's for the rest of us mere mortals to simply lie back and enjoy it. So to speak.

If I had all the money in the world, one of the first things I'd do is get front row seats to his tours. I mean, yeah - set up a trust fund for my kid, a foundation to get low-cost housing set up for my hometown... but definitely front row seats would be a top tier priority. Something I'll never get in this lifetime, otherwise. 😉

Sob Rock is my most revisited album this year. Not every great piece of music or great musician is recognized by the masses. It's arguable that when it happens, it's the exception not the rule. Sometimes greatness isn't recognized until long after the artist is dead. Bach was rediscovered by Mendelssohn. Moby-Dick wasn't recognized until the 1920s. Even Shakespeare, as close as humanity has to a universal genius, went through a fallow period until he re-emerged in the 18th century.

I'd guess that the three great examples in the 20th century – Chaplin, Louis Armstrong and Jazz, and the Beatles – all benefited from limitations. Film was new and silent. Chaplin's little tramp was everyman. Records were new in the sense that the technology had improved and normal people could afford records players in the 1920s. The Jazz Age. The Beatles, post war, world's had a bad run, TV is coming into its own, only a few stations, shows with something for everyone, and a large younger generation ready for something new... boom. The Beatles displayed raw and infectious optimism.

Had a random thought about where this guy had gone. Did a simple search and the first song to pop up was this one. Absolutely gave me goose bumps, not to many songs have so much energy that you feel every guitar stroke. Amazing work on this song!

It's Mayer's diversity for me. Instead of listening to 4 different artists from 4 different genres, I can listen to John mayer on shuffle and get every genre I enjoy. I haven't REALLY listened to anyone else for 2 years now.

@ItzaMe i havent ignored everyone. I'm well rounded in my musical taste. I like everyone from classics like beatles, floyd, zepplin, to new age songwriters like Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, and Feist. But Mayer remains my favorite and go to.

This hits so different. What a beautiful rendition of an epic song already. Top flight musicians created so much space for John to play out the emotions. Percussion, keys, everyone played it perfectly and John....well you know John is gonna lay down some epic riffs. Absolute masterclass.

What I love about John's guitar solos is that when you reach the master skill level that he is at with the guitar, what comes out of his performance is only limited to his imagination. Makes every performance uniquely genuine to whatever direction he wants to go in. Love coming back to this performance.
