Yano discovered Harakami's work in 2003 and approached him about working together. Harakami had been a fan of Yano's work for a long time and was happy to collaborate with her. The two began working together in 2004 and debuted formally as Yanokami in 2007 with a self-titled album. They concentrated mainly on live performances from 2008 to 2010, playing at both small venues and large festivals.

Harakami died of a cerebral hemorrhage in July 2011. Despite this loss, Yano announced her intention to continue Yanokami. Scheduled performances went on as planned, and their second album was released in December 2011 using what recordings Harakami had completed. Yanokami continues to perform with guest artists including U-Zhaan, Yoshinori Sunahara (砂原良徳), Illreme (イルリメ), and Maki Morishita (森下真樹).

Very nice format! A couple of ideas (some of this takes a bit of coding, but here goes):

1. Permanently display everyone’s furthest split time on the side of the screen, just like how their final times are shown, so that you really get a feeling of how close everyone is. Perhaps even make it display a number on each player corresponding to their placement @ the latest split.

2. Make a short interview with the winner in the end.

3. Have something prepared for (some/all of) the auto scrolling levels. Either they get point for a certain challenge, that we can watch out for, or you make the audience predict/vote for something or you just tell us something neat.

4. Make more of these!

I can't help but think that the hands RNG isn't the best thing for a tournament like this. Mitch actually mentioned in a recent SMB3 facts video that the hands levels can be entered voluntarily (when not grabbed), so how about making all three mandatory for all runners?

@Mitchflowerpower I think a great compromise would be to have the hands rng be a thing until the final 4 and the face off at the end. The excitement of it coming down to the skill at the very end of the tournament would be great for the viewership and would help draw up hype.

It doesn't eliminate the luck factor because it's still faster to manually enter a level then a hand take you in. I think it makes RNG worse for a constant runner if they get all 3 hands. I think it's perfect the way it is now.

I agree with you. I know basically nothing about Mario 3 speedrunning but with money on the line like this it's a bit nonsense to have luck play such a major factor when such a simple solution is available.

@Mitchflowerpower i strongly disagree, having them all active sounds more exciting and fair to me. This doesn't need to be warzone where the hands are like snipers 500 meters away taking pot shots. Do trackmania tourneys have random obstacles in a timed run? This is a race not a fight to rhe death, the consistent better racer should come out on top.

So if there truly is no way of manipulating the hands and it’s always 50/50, then the chance of getting nine no hands should be 1 in 512, less than 0.2%. That’s insane 😄

I had a blast watching it live yesterday, Mitch! Please do it again soon! Fantastic. I think the most epic moment for me was when czikubi died on Bowsers castle after getting no hands three times in a row! And he had a 10:47 in the first round?? Insane!

I agree with other commenters, next time it would be great if runners names were on the screens so we could tell who is who.

Amazing competition, GGs to everyone!
Any% no WW perfectly suits the format. Gotta say tho, we were lucky to witness the same hands in the final. This was an exciting race to the end, but I think having 4 finalists next time would help ensure that, cuz there would always be at least 2 real contenders, even if something happened to the others.
I will also put a good word towards the production, it's not easy to keep track of 50+ people at the same time and also prepare proper channels to watch between the races. You managed that pretty well.
And Czikubi is now a verb, I guess; lol

I was actually hoping for different rounds per playing session such as,100% speedrun,the 150% speedrun bu going back at the end of world 6 to world 5 trough a wisle,the straight to world 8 warp wisles(like here), the speedrun skipping strat were you do get trough all worlds but skippiing some parts of it per wisle,the world 7 pipe clip strat to finish the game,and the world pipe glitch strat to go straight to world 8 as well, that would be really cool to see such strats at 1 race,
Oh and as a bonus race for players with equel points ,howabout going to world 4 and do the softlock pipe glitch strat in the second fortress of world 4 and then going into a glitched pipe in a unintended area to get to the exit to softblock the game,and the one who first softblock the game should then win😁😁

This is an amazing idea, and i'm super hyped that it was done. Out of curiosity did the race platform have the ability to synchronize the starts, check the rom CRC's, or anything that would be required if more money were involved and this got bigger or were done with games that could come down to even tighter margins?

Because this is battle royale, all BR have massive amount of luck, it's what makes it so good, you might want to look at speedrun edition or vanilla races

While 14ish isn't a lot and has no effect its still good to mention when somethings unlikely it is more likely the more attempts. Your number is the odds of q random person but the odds of it happening from 14 people is still slightly different

Me stretching over to multiple rounds is now just running on how many times an INDIVIDUAL to achieve it.

The amount of participants attempting it is not relevant because they are not factors that directly affect how the game decides to make RNG happen.
