They didn‘t speak to each other much- Dan was too tall, and Brian‘s ever-changing hair color were causes of conversational anxieties. However, upon bumping into each other at a Dinosaur Jr. cover band show, they realized they had more in common than previously expected. They decided to form a band- Yogurt Smoothness, named after the one thing they knew the best, hoping it would inspire them to write music they could listen to while toiling in the yogurt production line, staring blankly into the relentless gobs of bacteria, that would keep them from wanting to dunk their heads into the vats and just end it all.

In 2008, they independently recorded and released “Live Cultures: Vol. 1“, a six song live EP with a limited run of 90 copies. In February 2010, Yogurt Smoothness released “The Diamond Through the Bees”, their debut full-length studio album- another independently created, limited first-run of 200. The digital version of the album can, however, be purchased worldwide through iTunes and various other internet music stores. Having been holed up in a studio for eight months, Yogurt Smoothness is eager to promote its latest release by taking it on tour.

I live in the Philippines and this video missed something. They were ordered not to surrender and hold their position UNTIL their commanding officer comes back. Japanese' imperial army was very strict when it comes to orders. He actually did what the commanding officer said and the officer came back. His rifle was still in good condition and is stored in our air force museum in Villamor Air Base

It's complicated. He spent decades fighting a war that had already been lost, terrorizing innocent people who didn't deserve it. But he was a loyal patriot to the end, heroic in the sense that he would not be beaten. That demands respect. It's... complicated. Just like any other historical figure, both good and bad points. Have you done a story about the other Japanese soldier from WWII found on Guam ?
Dad was stationed there and our girl scout troop had camped near the falls where a couple found the soldier weeks later fishing, hiding 8n a cave.
He did have a wife still alive.
But he never killed other people.
And the bones of a fellow soldier were found in the cave.

I had read newspaper at Vietnam about his story in Philippines on 1974 when he came out the hideout. In 1979 I escaped Vietnam after communist took over Saigon, by fishing boat and landed on Lubang Island, then I heard the local people talking about Onoda as a brave Japanese soldier .

Can you research and cover Teruo Nakamuro who was the last known Imperial Soldier to be discovered... he was discovered a few months later in 1974 and sadly passed away in 1979

He particularly liked the segments on cattle farming, hence his move to Brazil. Certainly one dedicated and patriotic soldier. Imagine the back pay he refused for almost 30 years!! He didn't like what Japan had become in the 1970s. After returning from Brazil he began a boot camp of sorts to toughen up the young. It is said that he was very healthy when he surrendered and his gun in perfect condition as he cleaned it every day

Truly amazing. There is something unique about the japanese spirit of perserverance courage sacrifice n hardwork. These elements og character building is deeply rooted in Shintoism n philosphy. I love all things japanese.

I mean I'm impressed with the amount of courage and honor this man had, but he still took out 7 precious and innocent lives so i don't know if i should consider him a hero and praise him.

There was an episode of 'The six million dollar man', called 'The last kamikaze', where he encounters a Japanese man on a remote island, who thinks WW2 is still on. Maybe it was based on this event.

Lubang Island is my Home Town, Onoda cameback to our Island 23 years after his surrender. He never mentioned in his book those locals they killed during 30years of hiding in the jungle.

Let's do a thought experiment. How would a German soldier from the WWII be greeted and looked upon if he had gone into hiding and did the same way? Feels like we are underestimating the Japanese here.

I think everyone took the fact that he killed civilians for a conflict he was told was over a bit too lightly. Those were living people with hopes and dreams and lives to live. Maybe don’t completely overlook how horrible what he did to them was.

Actually the last Imperial Soldier is Taiwanese 中村輝夫who was Takasago Volunteer Unit at Morotai Island. He was finally back to Taiwan at 1975.

I was stationed there and seem to remember a story of his surrender, I believe in the 70s also.

Another factor is, many of these soldiers were ordered to hold on in jungle until Japan recaptures those islands, because that’d certainly happen within years, according to their respective commanding officers. However, Japan got rich and peaceful and everything, and those commanding officers totally forgot what they told the poor soldiers.

Yes, I vaguely remember both on the news in the 70's, anything military interested me and it made an impression at young age, also I had decided before that at 6 that I would become a soldier and I was lucky enough to be healthy and joined the Army 18 years later.
