Another Song
Young Lyrics

With rug burns all over your knees
When I knocked on your door you went running
To the thick of the cottonwood trees
I was tracing your steps don't the concrete
Doing my best to just follow your lead
Every move you would make I would copy
So you saved all the hard ones for me
With rug burns all over your knees
When I knocked on your door you went running
To the thick of the cottonwood trees
Take me back a year
Oh take me back a year
When I was in the clear
And the sun was always near
Take me back a year
Oh take me back a year
When I was in the clear
And the sun was always near to me
You held open the door for the broken
But closed it when I looked your way
And took off in the other direction
To the hills where the Evergreens sway
The longer I ran the more tired I grew
The winds they had sworn that they'd lead me to you
But maybe they won't
And maybe I'm wasting my time
You held open the door for the broken
But closed it when I looked your way
And took off in the other direction
To the hills where the Evergreens sway
Take me back a year
Oh take me back a year
When I was in the clear
And the sun was always near
Take me back a year
Oh take me back a year
When I was in the clear
And the sun was always near to me
In "Another Song" by Young, the lyrics depict a sense of longing and nostalgia for a past time. The singer reminisces about a relationship or friendship that was once close and intimate. The opening lines evoke a playful and carefree atmosphere, as the two protagonists create a fort in the blankets, with the imagery of rug burns symbolizing the adventurous and spirited nature of their connection. When the singer comes knocking at the other person's door, they immediately run off into the cottonwood trees, suggesting a sense of elusive escapism and the desire for freedom.
As the song continues, the singer reflects on a specific point in time, a year in the past, that holds significance to them. They long for the clarity and warmth that they experienced back then, where the sun was always near and everything seemed easier. This can be interpreted as a desire to go back to a time when there was a stronger connection between the two individuals, when everything was simpler and more harmonious.
However, the second verse takes a slightly sadder turn, as the singer reflects on the present and the current state of their relationship. The other person still shows kindness and empathy towards those who are broken, but when the singer seeks their attention, they are met with closed doors and indifference. The other person chooses to move away from the singer, seeking solace in the hills where the Evergreens sway. This shift suggests a growing distance and disconnection between the two, as well as a sense of rejection and abandonment.
Overall, "Another Song" explores themes of longing, nostalgia, and the desire to go back to a time when things felt more pure and hopeful. It speaks to the universal experience of relationships changing and growing apart, and the longing to recapture the magic of the past.

You set up a fort in the blankets
You created a safe and secure space for yourself
With rug burns all over your knees
Showing the physical evidence of your adventurous nature
When I knocked on your door you went running
You quickly escaped from the responsibilities and pressures of reality
To the thick of the cottonwood trees
Seeking solace and tranquility in nature
I was tracing your steps don't the concrete
I was trying to understand your choices and actions
Doing my best to just follow your lead
I was attempting to emulate your lifestyle and decisions
Every move you would make I would copy
I mirrored your every action, hoping to be closer to you
So you saved all the hard ones for me

Take me back a year
I long for the past, a time when things were better
Oh take me back a year
I yearn for a previous period when life was simpler
When I was in the clear
When I had clarity and understanding
And the sun was always near
And happiness and positivity were abundant
You held open the door for the broken
You showed kindness and compassion towards those who were hurt
But closed it when I looked your way
But when I sought your support, you turned me away
And took off in the other direction
And you fled towards a different path
To the hills where the Evergreens sway
To find solace and peace in the calmness of nature
The longer I ran the more tired I grew
The more I pursued and chased after you, the more exhausted I became
The winds they had sworn that they'd lead me to you
I believed that the forces of fate would guide me towards you
But maybe they won't
But perhaps that hope is in vain
And maybe I'm wasting my time
And maybe my efforts are futile

A few years ago I repented to God then begged for help, "I was until then an Atheist."
I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed.", and what I felt from Jesus when I held him was unlike anything I've ever felt before - A lifetime of Love every second - It brought me to sobbing and it changed my life, forever.
I've had Many experiences since, "Several witnessed", one was seeing a bright orb of light pass across my face in the dark, hours before a major surgery the second I gave up in my heart.
Know that God and Jesus ARE real and that they Love us deeply. Let go of your hatred and Imagine yourself holding the people who've hurt you. Tell them you Love them.
Always have hope, I believe that prayer, following God's laws & Love is the answer, and through that, Truly becoming humble, merciful, welcoming, giving, gentle, respectful, compassionate, patient, kind and forgiving, To All. <3
