Again With Subtitles
Yppah Lyrics

If I didn't have you
Life would be blue
I'd be Dr.
Who without the Tardis
A candle without a wick
A Watson without a Crick
I'd be one of my outfits without a Dick-ie
I'd be cheese without the mac
Jobs without the Wozniak
I'd be solving exponential equations that use bases notfound on your calculator making it much harder to crack
I'd be an atom without a bomb
A dot without the com
And I'd probably still live with my mom
And he'd probably still live with his mom
Ever since I met you
You turned my world around
You supported all my dreams and all my hopes
You're like Uranium 235 and I'm Uranium 238Almost inseparable isotopes
I couldn't have imagined
How good my life would get
From the moment that I met you, Bernadette
If I didn't have you
Life would be dreary
I'd be string theory without any string
I'd be binary code without a one
A cathode-ray tube without an electron gun
I'd be "
Firefly," "
Buffy" and "
Avengers" without Joss Whedon
I'd speak a lot more Klingon Heghlu'me
H Qa
Q jajvam
And he'd definitely still live with his mom
Ever since I met you
You turned my world around
You're my best friend and my lover
We're like changing electric and magnetic fields
You can't have one without the other
I couldn't have imagined
How good my life would get
From the moment that I met you, Bernadette
Oh, we couldn't have imagined

How good our lives would get
From the moment that we met you, Bernadette

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Yppah's song "Again With Subtitles" express gratitude and appreciation for the presence, support, and love of a significant other. The opening lines create a hypothetical scenario where the singer imagines a life without their partner, likening it to various objects and concepts that lack a crucial component. The comparison to Dr. Who without the Tardis (a time-traveling spaceship) suggests that without his partner, the singer would be lost and directionless. The reference to Watson without a Crick (a nod to the discovery of the structure of DNA) implies a lack of meaningful collaboration and purposeful pursuits. Similarly, the cheese without the mac, the jobs without the Wozniak, and the solving of exponential equations with unusual bases all illustrate the idea of being incomplete or inadequate without the proper complementary element.

The chorus builds on this theme of appreciation, as the singer acknowledges how meeting Bernadette has enriched their life and turned their world around. The similes become focused on the scientific field of nuclear chemistry, with the comparison of the singer and Bernadette to isotopes of Uranium. Like Uranium 235 and 238, the two are inseparable and enhance each other's qualities. The analogy of changing electric and magnetic fields suggests a dynamic, evolving relationship that cannot be separated. The last two lines of the song repeat the refrain but address Bernadette directly, emphasizing their gratitude and joy in having her in their life.

I was buying a Yardbirds CD in HMV, so I went to the 'Y' section and picked up the CD behind the Yardbirds label. I didn't look at it, I just went and paid. When i got to my car I put the CD in and drove off. It wasn't the Yardbirds that started to play. It was Yppah. Amazing how you find some bands.

My world was flashing by at a million miles a minute. I'd saved over $100,000 dollars. Only $200,000 to go. But there was this one thing that I couldn't get off my mind.
