From experience: just get yourself amazon basics remote for d3400 and other cameras that cant use cable remote. Its cheap and works.

What about bulb mode if we want long exposure, do we need to press and hold the shutter button?

Bulb mode opens the shutter on the first press and closes it on second press, so you don't have to keep your finger pressed down on the button.

Hi, I have just bought a nikon d5300. Can the remote be setup to take multiple shots? I plan to use for fishing (taking shots of my catch & i - selfie); I need to take multiple shots whilst holding the fish, 2 secs will not be enough time..
