She grew up listening to her Dad write and sing the blues and started performing with him in his blues bands when she was a kid. She fell in love with the sincerity of Etta, the soul of Muddy and the power of Big Mama. When she got older she started writing hooks for and performing with local rappers from Eugene. She fell in love with hip-hop, with its authenticity. Now she's married to em both. DIRTY SHINE!

365 Days
ZZ Ward Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Scattered suits on the street,
Frames and broken pictures in the mid-September heat,
We set these nights on fire,
So hot, we bent it down,
Now all that's left of us is ashes on the ground,
I told you back in June
365 days, you've been making me wait,
So keep your two-timing games,
It's a lot of too late,
The summer's over,
Over, over,
Over, over, over,
Drop your keys from six stories,
Shout out, It's raining green,
Don't tell lies in heaven or an angel will get mean,
Diamonds and white gold watches,
Watch how fast they will soar,
You always say you wanted to give back to the poor,
I told you back in June
You knew damn well what I would do
365 days, you've been making me wait,
So keep your two-timing games,
It's a lot of too late,
The summer's over,
Over, over,
Over, over, over,
I won't be your debutante
Won't be the fool to your savant
I can't fix your cracked-up dreams
While the leaves fall off these trees
I won't spend the winter nights
Holding on to what ain't right
You might break your words real fast
But mine are made to last
365 days, you've been making me wait
So keep your two-timing games
It's a lot of too late
The summer's over
Over, over
Over, over
365 days, you've been making me wait
So keep your two-timing games
It's a lot of too late
The summer's over
Over, over
Over, over, over now
Over now
In ZZ Ward's "365 Days," the singer showcases her burning desire to move on from a dishonest lover. The song is about the end of the summer of a year-long relationship that she has been waiting to get out of. The lyrics are vivid and powerful, evoking a sense of sadness and resilience in the singer. She sings about discarded clothes, broken frames, and scattered suits on the street, probably from a fight or breakup. With lines like "So hot, we bent it down, now all that's left of us is ashes on the ground," she alludes to the precious moment that they once shared, now long gone.
The chorus "365 days, you've been making me wait, so keep your two-timing games, it's a lot of too late, the summer's over" repeats, emphasizing her decision to move on from a relationship that no longer serves her. She refuses to continue being someone's fool or debutante and won't hold on to something that's not right for her. The song culminates with the repetition of the chorus, with an added "over now," indicating that she is finally done with waiting and has moved on.

Your clothes out on the blacktop,
Your clothing left discarded on the asphalt,
Scattered suits on the street,
Suits randomly strewn about on the road,
Frames and broken pictures in the mid-September heat,
Picture frames and photos shattered in hot September temperatures,
We set these nights on fire,
We made these nights extremely exciting,
So hot, we bent it down,
So intense that we pushed it to the limit,
Now all that's left of us is ashes on the ground,
All that remains of us is burnt rubble,
I told you back in June
I warned you in June,
You knew damn well what I would do
You understood my intentions perfectly,
365 days, you've been making me wait,
I've been waiting an entire year because of you,
So keep your two-timing games,
You can continue your deceptive ways,
It's a lot of too late,
But it's too late for us now,
The summer's over,
The summer is done,
Over, over,
Completely finished,
Drop your keys from six stories,
Let your keys fall from six floors up,
Shout out, It's raining green,
Shout that it's raining money,
Don't tell lies in heaven or an angel will get mean,
Don't be deceitful in heaven, or you'll face consequences,
Diamonds and white gold watches,
Expensive jewelry made of diamonds and white gold,
Watch how fast they will soar,
Observe how quickly their value will increase,
You always say you wanted to give back to the poor,
You claim that you want to donate money to those in need,
I won't be your debutante
I won't be your elegant first appearance in society,
Won't be the fool to your savant
I won't play the ignorant follower to your intelligent expert,
I can't fix your cracked-up dreams
I am unable to repair your broken aspirations,
While the leaves fall off these trees
As autumn begins and leaves fall off the trees,
I won't spend the winter nights
I won't pass my wintertime staying with you,
Holding on to what ain't right
Holding on to what is incorrect,
You might break your words real fast
You may quickly retract your promises,
But mine are made to last
But my words will have an enduring effect,
Over now
Finished finally,

@franklinglasgow5228
I agree 100% that she should be so popular rn, I found her music from the song ride from cars after i watched it and I spent like an hour just looking at her music
@meghanbowling9755
The great thing about ZZ Ward, besides her obvious talent is she sounds exactly the same live as she does here. I was lucky enough to see her live and meet her, she's awesome.
@lazylion420
great voice, knows how to sing with some soul instead of just hitting the notes, writes her own music, plays multiple instruments instead of just dancing around, AND is beautiful.
god damn we need WAY more women like this in the music world. there's far too many fake pop divas produced by the Disney channel.
@Dogherder22
cmz8706 THANK YOU! You are so right!
@michaelmiller1543
