Ndiyacela ndiphathise
Ulul'isandla sakho
Andifun’ukufana nabanikezela
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Umthwalo wam uyandisinda
Ulul'isandla sakho
Andifun’ukufana nabanikezela
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Ndingxanyelwe lixesha
Ubomi buyandixhesha
Ndiyakhubeka
Ndifun’ukuphakama ndifun’ukubaleka
Umthwalo wam uyandisinda
Ndiyacela ndiphathise
Ulul'isandla sakho
Andifun’ukufana nabanikezela
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Emhlabeni kugcwele zizinto
Ezintle nezimbi
Ntliziyo yam bayingxalie
Emhlabeni kugcwele zizinto
Ezintle nezimbi
Ntliziyo yam bayingxalile
Umthwalo wam uyandisinda
Ndiyacela ndiphathise
Ulul'isandla sakho
Andifun’ukufana nabanikezela
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda a ah ah ah
Umthwalo wam uyandisinda
Ndiyacela ndiphathise
Ulul'isandla sakho
Andifun’ukufana nabanikezela
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Mna mna andifun’ukuzika
Mna mna andifunukweyiswa
Mna mna andifun’ukuzika
Mna mna andifin’ukweyiswa
Umthwalo wam uyandisinda
Awu ndiyacela ndiphathise
Ulul'isandla sakho
Andifun’ukufana nabanikezela
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
Uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda
The lyrics of Zahara's "Umthwalo" are a poignant expression of the burden and pain carried by the singer. "Umthwalo wam uyandisinda" translates to "my burden is suffocating me," and she begs for someone to "ndiphathise" – help carry her load. The metaphor is expanded upon in the next line with "ulul'isandla sakho," which means "the grace of your hand," and the singer asks for it because she doesn't want to be like those who give but take grace away.
The repetition of "uuh wuwu uhu uyandisinda" helps to reinforce the heaviness and pressure of her pain. The second verse has a shift in tone, with the singer acknowledging that she has been caught in a moment ("ndingxanyelwe lixesha") and that she needs to move forward ("ndifun'ukuphakama ndifun'ukubaleka"). The third verse talks about the beauty and the ugliness of the world ("emhlabeni kugcwele zizinto"), and how her heart is crying out.
Overall, the song speaks to the universal human experience of pain and hardship, and the need for someone to share the burden or offer a helping hand.
