Born in the neighborhood of Irajá, Rio de Janeiro, Zeca Pagodinho grew up around the most traditional types of samba and started making his own verses while still a kid. In the '70s, Zeca started frequenting the Carnival Block of Cacique de Ramos, which took place in Rio de Janeiro every Wednesday and became a true pagode venu (pagode is a type of samba). At one of these jams, samba singer Beth Carvalho was impressed with Zeca's skills and invited him to record the song "Camarão Que Dorme a Onda Leva". From that point on, Zeca began to record his own albums. There are now 15 of them, and four DVDs. His creative, joyful, malicious songs translate the day-by-day of the typical easygoing carioca (citizen or Rio) and are a big success in Brazil. He's one of the biggest-sellers in the country.
One of Zeca's first hits is SPC and it appeared on his first album. The SPC (it stands for Credit Protection Service) is a blacklist of bad debtors from which it is hard to get one's name removed . The song, a partnership between Arlindo Cruz and Zeca, tells the story of someone who asks a friend (or partner) to use their credit card on his behalf; afterwards, the relationship breaks up. Both of them are poor.

Paixão forte me domina
Agora que começou
Não sei mais como termina
Água da minha sede
Bebo na sua fonte
Sou peixe na sua rede
Por do sol no seu horizonte
Quando você sambou na roda
Fiquei afim de te namorar
Fiquei afim de te namorar
O amor tem essa história
Se bate já quer entrar
Se entra não quer sair
Ninguém sabe explicar
O meu amor é passarinheiro
O meu amor é passarinheiro
Ele só quer passarinhar
Ele só quer passarinhar
Seu beijo é um alçapão
Seu abraço é uma gaiola
Que prende meu coração
Que nem moda de viola
Na gandaia (na gandaia)
Fruto do seu amor me pegou (na gandaia)
Sua renda me rodou (foi a gira)
Foi cangira que me enfeitiçou
Apaixonado
Preciso do seu amor
Na gandaia (na gandaia)
Fruto do seu amor me pegou (na gandaia)
Sua renda me rodou (foi a gira)
Foi cangira que me enfeitiçou
Apaixonado
Preciso do seu amor
Eu preciso do seu amor
Paixão forte me domina
Agora que começou
Não sei mais como termina
Água da minha sede
Bebo na sua fonte
Sou peixe na sua rede
Por do sol no seu horizonte
Quando você sambou na roda
Quando você sambou na roda
Fiquei afim de te namorar
Fiquei afim de te namorar
O amor tem essa história
Se bate já quer entrar
Se entra não quer sair
Ninguém sabe explicar
O meu amor é passarinheiro
O meu amor é passarinheiro
Ele só quer passarinhar
Ele só quer passarinhar

The song Água Da Minha Sede by Zeca Pagodinho talks about a strong passion that takes over the singer's life. He states that he needs the love of his partner and he doesn't know how their relationship will end. The metaphor "Água da minha sede" (water of my thirst) symbolizes his partner as the one who quenches his thirst for love. He describes himself as a fish in her net, indicating that she has caught him with her love.
The chorus talks about how he fell for her when he saw her dancing and wanted to date her. The following verses follow the same theme of being trapped in her love, where he describes his lover as a bird catcher where her kiss is a trap and her embrace is a cage. The mention of "Na Gandaia" and "Cangira" are terms used in Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion, where "Gandaia" means party and "Cangira" means a female spirit. This shows the influence of African rhythms and beliefs in the song and Brazilian culture.
Overall, the song talks about the irresistible force of love that takes over and entraps someone's heart. Zeca Pagodinho's smooth melodies and lyrics make this song a classic in Brazilian Samba.

I really like this video too. But from the little Portuguese I know it looks like the Google translate English version I saw had a few mysterious glitches, like this:
(On the gandaia) your income spun me around
(Na gandaia) sua renda me rodou
It was 'ca tour that bewitched me
Foi 'ca gira que me enfeitiçou
🤔
The song talks about dancing in a samba de roda, but I’m wondering what type of samba the video shows. Samba de gafieira? Samba pagode? Looks like fun.
