Don't
blink-182 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There was a time long ago
But it seemed like yesterday
When all I wanted was you

And now you make a segway
As you turn your face away
And I know your words aren't true
And I don't want your lies
And I don't think that I'm
Better than you inside

And you can take off your disguise
'Cause I can see the truth that's hidden
Behind your eyes

And all those words that you don't say
Just mean less and less each day
You can't make me shed a tear

I think about tomorrow

Another day of sorrow
But I don't think that I'll be here

Overall Meaning

In the song "Don't" by blink-182, the lyrics express feelings of heartbreak and disillusionment in a relationship. The singer reflects on a time when they were deeply in love with their partner, but now they feel that their partner is hiding the truth and telling lies. The singer acknowledges that they are not better than their partner, but they cannot continue living in a situation where they are constantly being deceived.

The lyrics suggest that the partner has changed over time, and the singer can see that they are not the same person they fell in love with. The partner is unable to express their true feelings, and as a result, their words have lost their meaning. The singer is tired of feeling sad every day and is resigned to the fact that they may not be together in the future.

The themes of heartbreak and disillusionment are common in many of blink-182's songs. The band has consistently used their music as a way to express feelings of frustration and discontent, often touching on themes of love, relationships, and growing up. "Don't" is a classic example of the band's ability to capture complex emotions with just a few simple chords and lyrics.

Thanks

When the chorus kicks in with a little key change it is great. They really abandoned their early side but they actually had quite a bit more mixing of modes and keys early on which was interesting going back on it.
