In all fairness, I can't give you a specific answer to such a broad and open question but perhaps you can make some conclusions based on your daily activities and observations. Please keep in mind that I was speaking from the viewpoint of one person within the limitations of a brief video and didn't intend to offend anyone. But perhaps I can offer you a few examples for your consideration.

I was just waiting for my wife to meet me at the car after our brief but separate shopping in a busy mall. I've watched the amount of distance between some parents and their young kids that (sometimes) seemed as if they came by themselves. Many parents didn't even look back for any reason.

There's also a few parents who pick up their kids from school and then speed off as if they couldn't understand that other kids deserve to be as safe as theirs.

And finally, think about the number of children left unattended in hot cars with the doors locked.

These are just a few of the examples that I can offer especially given the fact that there are no perfect people and no perfect situation. My only point was to applaud someone who seemed to have everyone's interest in mind. But what do I know? He could be a complete tyrant once they get a few miles from home. Let's hope not.

I love that you decided that if anybody's bed space was going to be converted for a secondary use, it was going to be yours and not the kids'. So many people ask their kids to make compromises when living on the road but I personally think the adults should make the compromises, because adults are more adaptable but also the adults are the ones who ultimately made the decision to choose this lifestyle. This would be absoloutely awesome for a small family of 3 or 4, maybe 5. It's obviously well designed for such a big family, but for a smaller family, the way this is organised, it would be really cool to have a smaller family and use some of the extra space. You never realise how much space is actually on these things but the fact you can fit so much is amazing.

Man, the amount of respect and care these parents took into giving their kids as much space of their own as humanly possible in a bus...mind blowing. They made many sacrifices so their children could have more room for their own belongings as well as space to play and be. Props to them! It's really heartwarming (and rare) to see a tiny home parent live more modestly for the benefit of the children.

@Kinketsu It depends on their ages. Kids loving having their own little "caves", etc, plus as he says they'll be personalising them. Once puberty hits some of the kids may well want more privacy. He says they'll be reassessing within those 2 years.

You’re smart to have considered reassessing whether you still want to continue this life style. Most people dive head first because it looks fun but they don’t consider the fact that it might be fun at first BUT…… no one ever talks about how it will get old after the novelty wears off!!! LOL

I think this is one of the top Bus RVs for a family to live and travel full time in that I have seen. It's the perfect home on wheels for growing children and their parents to see the country while enjoying it as a family and learning so much along the way. I especially love the commitment of more space for the children, especially for those rainy days when they may be stuck inside to have that upper story to hang out ... with all that space thanks to the folding master bed!

What a fun adventure! As a young kid I think this would've been awesome. However as a teenager / someone getting into their own hobbies - this would be pretty cramped I'd say. I really appreciate that you're revisiting. I'm sure it'll be a great adventure but may lead back to a bigger house, and that's totally OK!

Wow, this is the best RV I've ever seen! It's very well-planned! I love that it has two comfort rooms and a shower just right for the height. The kids' beds have their own beds so that they can have their own personal spaces... Speaking of spaces, the RV is spacious enough for workspace or playing area. PLUS, the roof deck idea is AWESOME! I love it

I also thought that if we turn towards a tiny home it should be a converted double decker, so my son could have his own full sized room in the tiny home. I really love that each of your 6 kids got their own bed and that they have the whole upper deck as room to play. The only point where I’m a bit concerned is the laundry machine, such big front loaders have a lot of weight while camping options with a top loader have less weight and are easier to buckle up for when one drives, the big and heavy laundry machine could actually rip a buckle and fall out of its place, because of the weight and because the upper level has more movement when driving. The camping options don’t have a heater inside so one needs to add preheated water via the water pipe, but because of the missing heater they don’t use up that much electricity and they run faster that the regular household front loader’s while getting the laundry clean and rack dry like the regular household front loader. At least that’s the case on those camping laundromats that have a full program included that runs on its own till the laundry is finished. I should still have a link saved to the one that we have for camping, ima look for it and add a comment with the link of what I mean so one can compare the difference to what ppl normally think a camping laundromat would be.

It’s the regard for the children that I appreciate. Many of these buses throw the kids in caskets and the parents have this palatial master suite with closed doors. I had to add a thumbs up to this video just because of that part. The convertible master area was the icing on the cake. Great job supporting their developing minds. Kudos.

I hope you continue to travel in your mobile home. We did it with our kids when they were little and it was the best experience they could have had. You have one beautiful RV that compares even better than other luxury RVs on the market. You have really taken a leap of faith and I wish you and your family the best (safest) road trip ever. I'm glad you have made the choice to "Return to base" and re-evaluate your plans every 6 months, a smart move. I'd love the chance to do the same while I am still healthy, but it does seem a stretch for me to imagine myself living full-time on the road for the rest of my years.

He's a bit over his head. There's no way this can be done long-term with SIX kids. He needs to settle down VERY soon and plan to build a house at least twice the size of that bus. Even my mom didn't have that issue and she came from a family of four kids altogether.

@hhef83 My best childhood memories are playing sports, lunchtime in the cafeteria, sleepovers, and being with my friends. All of these parents are robbing their children of these wonderful experiences. Kids are adaptable, so of course they make the best of these situations, but it doesn’t mean that they would rather do this then have a normal childhood with FRIENDS. Kids need socialization. Pure selfishness by these parents.

@J Silva that’s what I thought, he sounds like a great dad but the best part of childhood is to be with friends and to feel a little “independent” when riding one’s bike all over the neighborhood and away from the parents. Children need stability, I’ve heard stories of military kids always moving around and never having permanent friends or school and it’s kind of damaging to their psychological development.

The back of the seats transforming into a table is a cool concept. The solar panels near the hatch seem like they would be a trip/slip hazard. How come they aren't all consolidated in the back? It would allow you to fence off four sides to make it safer for the kids. Also, you won't risk slipping on the panels and falling off the bus.

I love that you didn’t make your bedroom like a private room and take half of the bus and instead make it convertible for your kid to have more space. Most of the rv family just put their kid in the bunk and that’s it. No extra space to hangout other than the living room.

This is one of few builds I've seen where the parents compromise/convert their own sleep space for the benefit of the kids. Considering the kids are going to spending most of the travel time studying/playing, while the parents are busy driving, it does make sense for them to have the most space.

Amazing conversion! Really lovely choices in how you fitted out the rv.

How does education work? I think that would be my only concern. I’m a private tutor and every homeschooled child I have taught was very behind but more importantly, not well socialised and extremely or mildly timid.

I’m convinced home schooling is a net negative for children based on the social aspect alone. But having 6 kids would help I guess hahah!

Funny, because as someone who was homeschooled, and took my tests for my high-school degree, the week of my 15th birthday, and passed in the 96th percentile, in my experience, homeschooled youth tend to be much further ahead academically then their public schooled peers. I will say that having regular unscheduled socialization time is very important though, most homeschoolers have their children in a lot of extra-curricular activities, but the way you interact with other children in a structured environment like a dojo, or a dance class, or music classes, is very different than the way you'd interact with other kids on the playground at recess. As someone who now RV's full time though, I think the fact that they're staying in family friendly rv parks solves that problem though. There's plenty of other families that choose this lifestyle, and their children will have lots of peers to regularly interact with.

@icequeensamwich probably because the home schooled ones that come to me are in trouble academically. But yeah that's been my experience. The parents have their own full time jobs or part time jobs and actually having the discipling to educate your child in all the subjects can be very taxing. It's muhc harder for a parent to teach maths than a third party like a teacher who the child doesn't know as well. The dynamic is completely different.

Good on you and your wife for doing this... The thing is you can always sell the bus and revisit home living if it ever loses its appeal.. In the meantime you are showing your kids that anything can be done and there are no limitations in life other than what is self imposed. As the kids get older what stories they will have and life experiences and that goes for your wife and yourself too. Having the courage to do things like this is rare. I certainly have taken my share of universal adventures also so I can appreciate the feeling of vulnerability that goes with this but honestly I am so impressed.

I love how even though your bed is the convertible one it is still contained, just covered. Many convertible beds you have to make from scratch every evening. Also love each kid having their own space.

I've never seen a build quite like this one. It's really awesome how much you and your wife thought about the kids, their mental wellbeing, and their safety. No judgement to other people who are living in RV's or self built vehicles, but I do often wonder if the kids are fully able to enjoy living on a bus because there are no places to play, etc. And I know that there's outdoor spaces but there's also inclement weather, days where they are not feeling as well or up to exploring outdoors, etc. But you guys have done a truly amazing job or trying to give them everything. The safety behind the rooftop deck is really genius. I hope you enjoy the bus for years to come.

Okay, let's be honest here. Most families are averaging 4 people living in a RV with small children. These RV's are big enough for children to play in just as if they were living in a trailer park home. You mentioned the inclement weather. Well, what do children do nowadays if the weather is bad? Either they be in the house watching movies, on their phones, or go somewhere where it's indoor entertainment. This family have 6 kids! So he had to create something like this with space. Or else it wouldn't work.

@Spank Buda I've seen many Rv/ tiny home videos where people are living in smaller spaces than this one and I sometimes feel like the families are all on top of each other, have no privacy, etc so no, they don't always have space to play. Some people may not feel like that part matters much but I personally thinks that it does. Just because someone CAN get by a certain way doesn't mean that they SHOULD do it. Kids cramped into smaller spaces can often get stir crazy (so can parents from the noise levels, etc). I think its difficult on family dynamics to be in that close proximity when they aren't getting along, etc. Also, I've seen many videos where it's 6 kids, sometimes with teenagers, living in a single level bus. While the opportunity for the adventure can be amazing, every situation has it's cons and not all parents have mitigated the cons as well as the parents in this family

@Angel A Okay, you keep bringing up this "privacy" when these people have families. Regardless if they're living in a RV, an apartment, or a SF home your privacy/personal space decreases once you start adding individuals to the equation.
We do not know if these families are still owning a home to return to. We don't know if their children are well behaved and just love being around each other. We don't know if that teen was raised in a RV since a toddler and they're just use to being in that environment because this is all that they know and they're conditioned for it. We don't know any of this and just speculating.
This is why there's a community of them to socialize online and at in person meet ups to inform each other viable information.
I don't think that you're not putting it consideration that this lifestyle is only for a certain group. As long as there's a strong nuclear family presence their insanity would be fine!

@Angel A A typical response. Look, normally when an individual says "no offense..." there's always going to be something they say offensive in their comment. And no, I'm not "bothered or offended" because I'm have a conversation with you and that you don't like the words what I typed. This "reverse psychology" tactics that you and others have done for many decades is a tell that you are the one committing these behavioral acts.

This is honestly more well-thought out than a lot of professional RVs for various practical reasons. The transforming master bedroom in particular is smart. It really opens that space up for the kids to enjoy so much more. Love how open it is for any activity.
Likewise the roof deck fencing, especially the part that sections off the solar panels. Very simple solution, very effective. I had a similar idea myself if I were to ever do a bus roof conversion, it really is a simple way to protect from very serious accidents if someone slipped or there was a large gust of wind suddenly. That height is... yeah, not so good to fall from lol
Roofs are incredibly valuable spaces on vehicle builds and they are horribly under-utilized in so many builds that I see. Even the argument of "yeah that's where my solar goes" isn't really all that good. You can put those solar panels on a frame that rises up either manually or by motor and BOOM ton of space to chill on. Not even that expensive either, even with the electric motor versions. If anyone reading is ever considering doing a vehicle build, seriously consider doing this, it will make for a very nice change of scenery when you can chill on your roof at dusk with a cup of your favourite beverage. Either that or a side tent that expands your outdoor living space, or even a simple side awning, it really makes a difference when you can shield yourself from light bad weather but still enjoy the outdoors. Downside with side extensions is you can't really do that in a lot of areas you park outside of wilderness or larger parking spaces, roof is viable everywhere.

I agree...a lot of great thought and design went into this build, and it looks great. Inside you don't realize how tall this thing is, but I don't think there would be any other way to somewhat comfortably house 6 kids.

The only thing I saw is the location of those solar panels could be a hazard to anyone going up on the roof, they really should be moved so that you don't have to try and walk between them to get to the roof top deck. Someone at some point is going to slip and its a long ways down.

@William Sevier An easy solution there would be to make them (or just one) capable of unlocking and sliding up to the edges similar to the railings when you need to pass them.
In fact, adding them on to a rotating frame could be quite handy for better sun targeting depending on where you are and time. Too fiddly though lol, especially if it wasn't automated. Sure the panels don't really need an exact angle like a satellite, their efficiency angles are fairly wide.

I have to tell you that this is the best RV oversight where are you explained in great detail all the little things that almost everybody else forgets to mention. Like the different sizes of your tires the sizes of your water tanks and black tanks explaining how you come up to the roof and have to go between the solar panels. And I was sitting there wondering how do you keep the kids from going up towards the solar panels and falling off and then you explained how you had those rails that kind of keeps them from going forward or too far backwards. Seriously great job on this. It now makes me want to look for a class a instead of a class a fifth wheel that we have. I’m gonna tell him my wife the whole time we could’ve bought a clase and really enjoyed being with each other the whole time. Instead of sitting in a truck pulling the camper. And a fifth wheel it’s much harder to set up and a clase thank you. Thank you

For helping with the heat. I don't know if you looked into it, but I am thinking about doing it on my 5er (17 windows lets a lot of heat in). When I lived in AZ I put a higher end ceramic tint on my truck windows. It blocked I believe 97% of the UV and even the clear film blocks something like 90 percent of the UV without darkening.
