She fully dives into what exactly this song means to her while talking to Invertebrate:
"That track meant a lot to me when it came out because it was really, actually about taking a leap of faith into the music industry and doing something that was really daunting and scary for me, and still is every single day as I approach my job. But it was also the first song that I released where it was co-written by other people and I was working with producers in a session environment for the first time and I think that that song really showcased and helped me understand when I made it back in August of last year, kind of how I wanted to continue making music going into 2020.“

In the description of the official audio, Maia wrote:
"the day i wrote this song, i knew it meant the world to me. i’m beyond excited to share it with you all now and to finally allow it into the world for everyone’s ears! […] thank you to my family and my friends for supporting me my entire life, even when the path ahead was unknown. you mean more than i can say with words."
In the description of the video, Maia wrote:
"when thinking about the visualizer for “fever dream” i thought basing it off of the cover art would be a good idea. compiling and editing home videos from my tiny human days was so much fun, but it also made me think. so here’s what i have to say:
life is merely a collection of moments, memories, and feelings, and while days are fleeting, they are no less important because it. the times we have in our journeys as people define our being, and the small moments make up the fabric of our values and who we change to be even as the hours pass by. so, don’t take the time you have for granted. dream as big or as small as you dare to, live authentically, and do so unapologetically. the uncertainty of our time is what makes it all the more precious, so fill it with what’s worth your while. be kind to yourself and others, and remember to embrace your sadness and relish your happiness throughout it all."

Don't hold your cards too close is what they say
Now, love is just another leap of faith
But I jump right in
I took the train, I took the car
I didn't know just where I'd fall
Or where it'd take me
I'll never know if I'll get there
But just maybe
I want something more than
More than restless mornings
Gettin' by's so boring
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh
Take another look before it goes
Days are only footprints in the snow
How far away can I walk 'til I'm way too far from home?
I wish I knew, I wish I knew
I want something more than
More than restless mornings
Gettin' by's so boring
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh
Take your time, enjoy it
Every fleeting moment
Gettin' by's so boring
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh
I took the train, I took the car
I didn't know just where I'd fall
Or where it'd take me
Another step, another stair
I'll never know if I'll get there
But just maybe
I want something more than
More than restless mornings
Gettin' by's so boring
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh
Take your time, enjoy it
Every fleeting moment
Gettin' by's so boring
Ah-ooh, ah-ooh
The song starts with the lyrics "Life's a losing game when you don't play" and immediately sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer talks about how love is just another leap of faith and they seem to have taken that leap by jumping right in. They talk about taking the train and the car without knowing where they'll fall or where it will take them. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for taking risks in life without knowing the outcome – and not being afraid to do so. The chorus is a plea for more than the ordinary, more than just "restless mornings" and "getting by", indicating a desire for a more fulfilling life.
The second verse has the same feel as the first, with the singer still taking risks and not knowing where they'll end up. They wonder how far they can go before they're too far from home, but they don't know the answer. The chorus repeats, emphasizing how unfulfilling ordinary life can be. The final lines repeat the first verse, bringing the song full circle.
Overall, the song is about taking risks and not being afraid of the unknown. It's about living a fulfilling life and not settling for "getting by".

I think its interesting how she tends the acknowledge her past self and smile at her, but not once did she look at her older self. I think that it reflects that she never can predict the future, and that she 's still looking at the past. The same goes how the older self is interacting with the kid still, suggesting that she misses the days of her youth. I love this music video!

I love this and if that is true then her younger self interacted with her present self a lot too so maybe she used to think she could but learned from it
