I was there at that game. Evan Battey (#21) is a class act. He suffered a stroke at 19 and thankfully recovered. He was probably worried he caused head trauma to that player. He’s a good guy; it was nice to see him care so much. I will say with that reaction though we were all worried that he broke his neck at first or something though

The way that guy’s forearm came down on his neck with his head turned sideways definitely put some stress and strain on his brain stem and the top of his neck. At first I didn’t think he actually hit his head all that hard on the floor, but it had to be a significant enough impact to split the skin and make him bleed. I had that same thought, though, about his neck because of how his body reacted… I got my neck fractured in a football game in high school and very much can relate to someone losing control of his whole body.

I had a teammate in a junior high basketball tournament (8th grade) who went up high for a layup, and a player on the other team straight-up reached out, hooked his arm behind my teammate’s heels, and yanked his feet out from under him… my teammate’s head went from the height of the bottom of the net straight to the floor, with the back of his head being the first thing to hit the hardwood, and then his feet going back over his head, and his left knee hit him in his own mouth.
I’ve never seen a dirtier play in any basketball game, ever, and I’ll never forget the sound of his head hitting the floor… it sounded like a shotgun going off in that gym.
How he was able to get up from that without a skull fracture or anything, I’ll never know. He always said he had a ridiculously hard head, but that really put it to the test.
