They formed in 2002 under the name Gazette (ガゼット; Gazetto), though later changed the name to the GazettE in 2006. They were first recognized for their 1st single, "別れ道" (Wakaremichi), released in April 2002 and held their first live March 10th of that year. As of the end of 2019, the band is signed to Sony Music Records.

The band was originally signed with Matina[/abel], but in March 2003, they switched over to PS COMPANY, right after replacing their original drummer ユネ (Yune) with their current one, 戒 (Kai) ex-drummer of Mareydi†Creia’. Since 2006 they have a European label contract with CLJ Records. In 2010 they signed in USA to Maru Music.

Overall Meaning

The GazettE's song REGRET portrays the pain and regret of losing someone dear. The lyrics begin by acknowledging the singer's realization that they should have held onto the loose threads of their relationship, which have now slipped away. They liken the emotions that have overflowed and spilled out to the color of the person they lost. The singer then recalls picking up all the words that the person they lost had scattered, listening to them repeatedly while nodding in unison, and finally laughing at themselves - this appears to come from the realization that they are now alone, laughing bitterly at themselves for talking to the air. Pink neon lights chanting out in the streets, where they once searched for the person they had lost, mocking the singer. They had picked up and collected the tears that had been shed, and now drink alone, like the phantom of their former love.
