(Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!)

Beat is gettin' stronger
Beat is gettin' longer too-oo-oo
Music's soundin' good to me
But I want to, said I want to

I want to take you higher
Yeah, let me take you higher
Baby, baby, let me light your fire
Ooo yeah, little bit higher

Boom-shaka-laka-laka
Boom-shaka-la-boonka-boo

(Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!)

Beat is nitty-gritty
Music's in your city too-oo-oo
Music's gettin' good to me
But now don't ya, I said don't ya

Don't ya want to get higher
Yeah, don't ya want to get higher
Baby, baby, let me light your fire

Overall Meaning

The Ike and Tina Turner Revue's "Wanna Take You Higher" is a highly energetic and upbeat song that is all about enjoying the power of music, dancing to the beat, and getting a little bit higher. The song stresses the importance of enjoying and losing oneself in the music while promising a high, thrilling experience to the listener. The song starts with the beat getting stronger and longer, with the music getting even better. Tina assures the listener that she wants to take them higher, light their fire, and go "Boom-shaka-laka-laka" and "Boom-shaka-la-boonka-boo." She invites the listener to come along, promising that music will make them move and groove, and then takes the listener on a joy-ride of dancing, singing, and swaying to the beat.

The song's lyrics and upbeat music perfectly epitomize the rebellious and celebratory nature of the 1960s. It was meant to be an ode to free-spiritedness, the freedom to dance, and the joy of letting loose from conventional norms. The song became highly popular and was a hit during its time. It is still enjoyed by many people even today, and the catchy tunes often draw people to the dance floor.

@tecdessus I believe it would be, for the main part of the song after the entrance/intro dancing: Jean at the audience’s far left in position 1, then Vera in 2, Tina in 3, and Esther in 4. Or you could say Vera is the tallest one & Esther is shortest one.

@tecdessus I was thinking the same thing hahaha
