Grime of the Century
Orgy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You keep looking at me like everything's good on your side
When it gets cold now, on the inside
And you stand up, brings empathy in you
... crime, caught up in the void,
Get ready, let's go it's time to kill the noise
I can't wait to get out of the grime of the century

Take off your look at me
As I'm already over in your head
One thing we both know it's true, can't continue this way
'Cause we can find a way out of the grime of the century

Look at the love you show me online
Cause everything's cool on your side
Till it gets cold now in the inside
All your scandals bring out the bitch in you
White lies, you selfish little boys
Vlay as a game with the kids on the boulevard
I just can't wait to get out of the grime of the century

Chorus:
Take off your look at me
As I'm already over in your head
One thing we both know it's true, can't continue this way
'Cause we can find a way out of the grime of the century

Keep it on the boulevard, just one last noise
I can't wait to get out of the grime of the century
As I'm already over in your head
But there's something that we both know for sure
Continue, continue lies
Can't wait to find a way out of the grime of the century

Take off your look at me
As I'm already over in your head
One thing we both know it's true, can't continue this way
'Cause we can find a way out of the grime of the century

Overall Meaning

The song "Grime of the Century" by Orgy deals with the theme of the apparent disconnect between people's public and private lives. The opening lines suggest that someone is observing the singer and acting as though everything is fine, but the singer can sense a coldness within. The chorus reinforces this by stating that both parties already know that things can't continue the way they have been. The grime of the century is a metaphor or image that represents the pollution or dirt that has accumulated in the singer's life, and they want to get away from it.

The song highlights the consequences of living a double life, specifically in the age of social media. In the lines "look at the love you show me online, 'cause everything's cool on your side, till it gets cold now in the inside," the singer seems to be referring to a partner who publicly displays affection but privately is much colder or more distant. The line "vlay as a game with the kids on the boulevard" suggests that this relationship is not healthy and may be damaging to others as well.

One interpretation of the chorus is that it's an encouragement to end the facade or pretense and acknowledge the truth of the situation. The singer can't wait to get out of this kind of environment, but it's not clear whether that means ending the relationship, changing one's behavior, or just escaping from the town/city/country where these problems exist.

pain is faced

The lyric is "painted face," as in "Your painted face left an impression on my pillow." The singer is telling the "Suicide Girl" that she wears a considerable amount of makeup and some has come off on the bedding.
