Love and Other Disasters is the third album by Swedish heavy metal band Sonic Syndicate. It was released on September 19, 2008 and on October 14 in North America. In addition to the standard-edition album, a digipack version of the album will made available featuring two bonus tracks and a DVD. Since released in the United States, the album has sold around 800 copies in its first week to land on the Billboard Heatseekers chart at 85. Love and Other Disasters is the last album by the band to feature former singer Roland Johansson, and producer Jonas Kjellgren.
On June 27, the lead single of the album called Jack of Diamonds was released to radio, the same day it was performed live for the first time on the Metaltown Festival in 2008. It has since spawned 3 other singles (My Escape, Power Shift, Contradiction). A 14th track entitled "Freeman" was also made but didn't make it to the album. The song was leaked to the Internet, though, and is rumored to be featured on a future album as a "surprise" one last song with Roland. The song can be heard in the background of the making of Love and Other Disasters-DVD through various scenes. The special edition of the album was reissued on November 6, 2009 together with the bands 2009-EP Rebellion featuring two brand new songs as well as the debut record with their new singer Nathan Biggs, replacing Roland Johansson.

Can you feel it, can you feel it?
You are not saved until you see the dawn
Set my Eden on fire now
You did it, you did it
Smoked out my soul once and for all
I'm coming home tonight
Can we make it right?
Or twist a dagger in my back
You lit the fires in me that I never thought I had
Now it's nothing but a memory
Be patient, someday this pain will be useful, useful to you
Be patient, someday this pain will settle deep in you, deep in you
The helix is shattered now
You broke it, you broke it
The destruction of my entire existence
Drink the nectar's of the shadow flower now
Contaminated
And sit back as it reaches for your heart
Be patient, someday this pain will be useful, useful to you
Be patient, someday this pain will settle deep in you, deep in you
In the excavation of my human heart I found something
Something that I never knew existed
I'm coming home tonight
Can we make it right?
Or twist a dagger in my back
You lit the fires in me that I never thought I had
Now it's nothing but a memory
Be patient, someday this pain will be useful, useful to you
Be patient, someday this pain will settle deep in you, deep in you
Be patient, someday this pain will be useful, useful to you
Be patient, someday this pain will settle deep in you, deep in you
The lyrics to Sonic Syndicate's "Aftermath" have a haunting and contemplative quality. The first few lines describe a feeling of entrapment or impending doom, as the walls seem to be closing in. The singer acknowledges that they won't be safe until they see the dawn, suggesting a sense of hopelessness and fear. The next few lines allude to a betrayal or destructive act, as someone set the singer's "Eden on fire" and "smoked out" their soul. There is a feeling of loss and regret, as the singer wonders if they can "make it right" or if they will be stabbed in the back.
Throughout the song, there is a recurring theme of pain as a transformative force. Despite the hurt and destruction that has been caused, there is a sense that this pain will eventually be useful, settling "deep in you." The imagery of "drink[ing] the nectar's of the shadow flower" and things being "contaminated" adds to the surreal and ominous atmosphere. The final lines of the song suggest that, in the midst of all this turmoil, the singer has discovered something new about themselves.
Overall, "Aftermath" is a complex and poetic exploration of betrayal, pain, and the possibility of transformation.
