The album’s title was first seen in a Instagram story posted by McRae on April 26, 2023, then was teased in an album teaser with a clapperboard featuring the phrase, adding a small snippet of the song of the same title afterwards. The album will be released through RCA Records and Sony Music Entertainment.
The album follows after McRae’s debut album, i used to think i could fly, released May 27, 2022. After McRae’s 2022 tour ended in New Zealand, she started teasing her being back in the studio and creating new music. In an Instagram Live on December 13, 2022, McRae said that she had started to plan out her next album and the writing sessions. She also said that the writing sessions officially started in January, 2023. On January 23, 2023, in a Tweet, McRae said, "omg i think i know the concept of my next album shdyhwydbaushsheb".
The fourteen track tracklist features the two pre-release singles, “greedy”, released on September 15, and “exes”, released on November 17. The tracklist was teased on November 26, and was announced on November 29.
