The follow-up, 1996's Another Level was a breakthrough success due to the top single "No Diggity" (with Dr. Dre), which was a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1996, and won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, along with the Top 40 hit "Don't Leave Me". Another Level eventually went four times platinum in the United States and peaked at #3 on the Billboard chart. "No Diggity" is ranked at #91 on Rolling Stone and MTV: 100 Greatest Pop Songs, while Blackstreet comes in at #214 of the Top 500 Pop Artists of the Past 25 Years.
Blackstreet has also collaborated with Jay-Z on his single "The City is Mine". With the help of the Janet Jackson single "Girlfriend", Blackstreet finally had a top ten album with Finally. But personnel shifts wracked the group and contributed to the relative failure of Finally in 1999, and Blackstreet soon broke up. After rumors of legal action and a preemptive countersuit, the group reformed and released Level II in 2003.

No Diggity
Blackstreet Lyrics
No, no, no diggity
This is the remix remat
Brought you by Blackstreet
No diggity no doubt (one, one, one, two no diggity)
Play on, playa
She was a gold digger (no diggity, ayo, ayo, ayo, ayo)
Yo, Dre drop the verse (no, no, no)
She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
Said 'I don't mind but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor, in around?" (no, no, no diggity)
She said I am the one
Who will dance
On the floor in around (no, no, no diggity)
She told me her name was Billie Jean as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of bein' the one (no diggity)
Who will dance, on the floor, in around, babe (no, no, no diggity)
People always told me, "be careful what you do
Don't go around breakin young girls' hearts"
And mama always told me, "be careful who you love
Be careful what you do, because a lie become the truth, eh"
Billie Jean is not my lover, oh
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son (no diggity, no doubt about it)
She said I am the one (gold digger, gold digger)
But the kid is not my son (I like the way you try to get slick no, no, no, no diggity)
For forty days and for forty nights I was on the scene
But who could stand when she's in demand her schemes and blames
Gonna dance, on a floor, in around (no, no, no diggity)
So take my strong advice
Just remember to always think twice (no)
Don't think twice
She told my baby imagined free and she looked at me (ah, ha)
And showed a photo of a baby cry his eyes were like mine
So we danced, on a floor, in around, baby (no, no, no diggity, no diggity)
The bridge
People always told me, "be careful what you do
Don't go around brakin' young girls' hearts"
But she she came and stood right by me and I smelled her sweet perfume (hehehe)
It happened much too soon
She called me to the room, hey yeah (no, no, no)
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one (gold digger, gold digger)
But the kid is not my son (I like the way you try to get slick no, no, no, no diggity)
The kid is not my son
She said I am the one (gold digger, gold digger)
But the kid is not my son (I like the way you try to get slick no, no, no, no diggity)
Billie Jean is not my lover (oh no)
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one (gold digger, gold digger)
But the kid is not my son (I like the way you try to get slick no diggity, no doubt about)
She said I am the one, said I'm the one (gold digger, gold digger)
But the kid is not my son (I like the way you try to get slick no, no, no, no diggity)
No Billie, Billie, Billie Jean
Billie Jean's not my lover
Billie Jean's not my lover (like take it to the bridge)
Billie Jean's not my lover
Billie Jean's not my lover, oh no
Billie Jean's not my lover (no diggity, no doubt about)
Billie Jean's not my lover (Billie Jean, not my lover)
Billie Jean's not my lover, oh no
Billie Jean's not my lover (Billie)
Billie Jean's (gold digger, gold digger)
Not my lover(I like the way you try to get slick)
Billie Jean's not my lover (yeah, ah, yeah ah, ha)
Billie Jean's (gold digger, gold digger)
Not my lover (I like the way you try to get slick)
Billie Jean's not my lover (no, no, no, no diggity)

When this single hit No. 1 in β96, Queen Pen became the first actual female rapper to appear on a Hot 100 chart-topper. The only other woman whoβd rapped on a No. 1 pop hit was Debbie Harry*, whoβs mainly a singer, on her band Blondieβs single βRaptureβ in β81.
Apparently because Pen wasnβt well-known, the record label did not give her billing on the single, which was credited to BLACKstreet featuring Dr. Dre. But her part is just as significant as Dreβs, so that shouldnβt matter in terms of her making history.
It took another two years for a female rapper to hit No. 1 again, this time solo, when βDoo Woo (That Thing)β by Lauryn Hill, rapping the verses and singing the chorus, went to the top in β98.
On lists of female emcees whoβve topped the Hot 100, Queen Pen is almost always left out, and thatβs totally unfair. Even Shawnna gets mentioned as the featured artist on βStand Upβ by Ludacris, a No. 1 hit from β03, when all she says on the main version is βjust like that,β βwhen I move, you move,β and βhell yeah, ay deejay, bring that back.β But because sheβs actually billed on the song, I never see her overlooked on those lists. Queen Pen should definitely be acknowledged for the full verse she raps on βNo Diggity.β

*On the Supremesβ 1967 No. 1 pop hit βLove Is Here and Now Youβre Gone,β Diana Ross speaks a couple of rhyming lines before the chorus. The songβs co-writer Eddie Holland said in an interview that βtalk singingβ was what he called it. Ross did much more of that on her first solo No. 1, βAinβt No Mountain High Enough,β in β70.
And itβs worth noting that male singer Lorne Greene does what could be considered a precursor to rapping, backed by a singing chorus, throughout the β64 No. 1 hit βRingo.β But singer Debbie Harry was the first woman to rap on a pop chart-topper after that vocal style was established as such with the creation of hip-hop in the mid-β70s. And Queen Pen was the first bona fide female rapper to rap on a song that achieved that feat.
