Excuses won't save you at all
Your cheating has broke us apart
Fooled around only this time
Fooled around for the last time
Baby
Now I'm back where I started
This lonely dance of the broken-hearted
You don't know a thing about falling in love
You don't know a thing about falling in love
Give in, I know what you are
That stupid smile used to get you so far
Well I'm done with you breaking my heart
Fooled around only this time
Fooled around for the last time
Baby
Now I'm back where I started
This lonely dance of the broken-hearted
You don't know a thing about falling in love
You don't know a thing about falling in love
Another lie and a slit on your clothing
Another word at your mouth I'm not believing
Another lie, another lie, another lie to me
Fooled around only this time
Fooled around for the last time
Baby
Now I'm back where I started
This lonely dance of the broken-hearted
You don't know a thing about falling in love
You don't understand what I've been dreaming of
You don't know a thing about falling in love
You don't know a thing about falling in love
The lyrics of Curtis Peoples' song "Back Where I Started" are about a relationship that has come to an end because of one person's cheating. The singer of the song knows that the relationship is over because the trust has been broken and the other person's excuses won't save them. The lyrics suggest that the singer had given the other person a chance before, but this time feels final. The chorus of the song, "now I'm back where I started this lonely dance of the broken-hearted," conveys a sense of familiarity with heartbreak and a fear of being stuck in the same cycle again.
The song also highlights the singer's frustration with the other person's lack of understanding of what love really means. The lines "you don't know a thing about falling in love, you don't understand what I've been dreaming of" show that the singer feels like they've been let down by the person's inability to appreciate the relationship.
Overall, "Back Where I Started" is a song about heartbreak and disappointment in love. It captures the emotional turmoil that comes with a broken relationship and expresses the fear of being back to where one started.
