High Enough
Damn Yankees Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
It's a shame I've got to live without you anymore
There's a fire in my heart
A pounding in my brain
It's driving me crazy
We don't need to talk about it anymore
Yesterday's just a memory
Can we close the door?
I just made one mistake
I didn't know what to say
When you called me "baby"
Don't say goodnight
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh-whoa, all the way
Can you take me high enough
To fly me over (fly me over)
Yesterday?
Can you take me high enough?
It's never over
And yesterday is just a memory
Yesterday is just a memory
And I don't want to live without you anymore
Can't you see I'm in misery?
And you know for sure
I would live and die for you
And I'd know just what to do
When you call me "baby"
Don't say goodbye
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh-whoa, all the way
Can you take me high enough
Can you fly me over (fly me over)
Yesterday?
Can you take me high enough
It's never over
And yesterday is just a memory, I'm running
(Oh-woah)
I was running for the door
(Oh-woah)
The next thing I remember
(Oh-woah)
I was running back for more
(Oh-woah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Don't say goodbye
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh-whoa, all the way (all the way)
(All the way, yeah)
Can you take me high enough
Can you fly me over (fly me over)
Yesterday?
Can you take me high enough?
It's never over
Whoa-oh, Whoa-oh, Whoa-oh, Whoa-oh
Can you take me high enough
Won't you fly me over (won't you fly me over)
Yesterday?
Can you take me high enough?
It's never over
Whoa-oh, Whoa-oh, Whoa-oh, Whoa-oh
The song "High Enough" by the Damn Yankees is about a person who is breaking up with their significant other, but they are not willing to give up on the relationship. The person is in pain and desperate to save the relationship because they cannot imagine living without their lover. The song starts with the lyric "I don't want to hear about it anymore, it's a shame I've got to live without you anymore." This line shows how the person is trying to avoid talking about the breakup and cannot imagine living without their lover.
The next set of lyrics "Can we close the door? I just made one mistake. I didn't know what to say when you called me 'baby'" further show the person's desperation to make up for their mistake and how they regret their actions. They are willing to do anything to save the relationship, even if it means begging and pleading their lover to stay.
The chorus of the song repeats the line "Can you take me high enough? Can you fly me over yesterday?" which shows the person's desire to forget about the past and start anew. The song emphasizes the idea that love can conquer all, and the person is willing to do anything to make the relationship work.

Greatest decade ever. No cell phones, people had to talk face to face, knew how to write, and most of all; it was real music with heart.

@Layk35 There is nothing today that comes close to the classics from this era.

I am 16 and I don't understand why I am here in 2023. I wanna live in the 70s, 80s, 90s when cell phones didn't exist, when people were people. Today I don't know why, but life depends on the phone and on internet. This is so so stupid. I wish someday people will understand.
I am Italian so I hope my English is right.

The Nuge's most subtle song by far (and IMO his best, since he wasn't front and center).

@Prince Albertz - Glad I’m not the only one who thought that when I was a kid, although I actually thought it was Tommy Shaw, not Jack Blades who was the Heartbreak Kid.

It's a shame there will never be music made like this again. If it wasn't for videos and cover bands the music would fade away. What a shame! This is some of the best rock music ever!
