18 and Life
Skid Row Lyrics

Ricky was a young boy
He had a heart of stone
Lived nine to five and worked his fingers to the bone

Just barely out of school
Came from the edge of town
Fought like a switchblade so no one could take him down

He had no money, oh
No good at home
He walked the streets a soldier
And he fought the world alone and now it's

Eighteen and life you got it
Eighteen and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
Eighteen and life to go
Eighteen and life you got it
Eighteen and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
Eighteen and life to go

Tequila in his heartbeat
His veins burned gasoline
It kept his motor runnin'
But he never kept it clean

They say he loved adventure
Ricky's the wild one
He married trouble
Had a courtship with a gun

Bang, bang, shoot 'em up
The party never ends
You can't think of dying when the bottle's your best friend
And now it's

Eighteen and life you got it
Eighteen and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
Eighteen and life to go
Eighteen and life you got it
Eighteen and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
Eighteen and life to go

Accidents will happen
They all heard Ricky say
He fired his six-shot to the wind
That child blew a child away

Eighteen and life you got it
Eighteen and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
Eighteen and life to go
Eighteen and life you got it
Eighteen and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
Eighteen and life to go, yeah
Oh oh

@Akshay Careful with your stereotyping. Almost every prisoners family needs or gets mental health.
The problem isn't with the prisoner nor the family. So please be careful not to blame victims.
The problem is the whole system. It's wrong and illegal on so Manny levels. Ask yourself why the US is one of the very few remaining countries that refuses to sign the International Human Rights treaty?
Why is the US the only 1st World country not to have an independent organization that holds the whole 'justice' system accountable? Right now there isn't a single organization that steps in to check prison management or should I say mismanagement?
When did it become ok for everyone associated with that system to be above the law?
Hell even the worst serial killer isn't as bad as the average jail or prison. If you didn't see them in their uniforms you would suddenly be horrified at what they do ALL the time and never pay.
I'm tired of the victims being behind bars.
Do some people belong in a type of jail? Yes but not how they are now. Not our present system.
Germany horrified the world with Hitler. They were forced to change their system. Guess what? The YS system is on par with those concentration camps. Except they don't get to die quickly. Instead they are tortured, beaten, humiliated, starved, raped in body mind and heart. And this? THIS is supposed to make them better people?
And then the way the families are treated and extorted. Raped, hunted outside of prison, forced to watch their loved ones being tortured and yet we are required to smile and say thank you.
Yes, this might begin to make sense why we require mental health. And it isn't the prisoners fault.
As a layman lawyer I can tell you with absolute certainty that one out of four people in prison are innocent. Not just innocent for the sentence they are serving but innocent of ever doing anything wrong at all.
Then there's 2.5 out of 4 people in prison for crimes that hurt no one.
That leaves .5 people that need rehabilition not torture.
The cops commit more crimes every day than .95 of that .5. So as you can see that leaves .005 of 1 that actually need to be kept from the public.
But the irony of 'protect and serve' when they routinely 'beat and torture'. Why is it ok for a cop to ever kill?
Are you getting the point that Americans need to stand up and together and say enough is enough?
Please think of this the next time you tell a victim to get 'professional help'. It is not ok to ever blame victims. I will not condone it. And I beg everyone that does to please open their eyes if not their hearts.

Is your name Ricky?

Didn't get to meet him but saw him up close at a concert in my hometown in Kingston, Ontario. He grew up about an hour away from me in Peterborough, Ontario. The concert venue was very tiny. His wife and mom were there as well. He is very down to earth. Also did a performance in the parking lot of my work place where their tour bus was parked. They were supposed to be performing at the same venue (this happened a few years earlier and posted on youtube) but the city lost power. He did this for his fans. Awesome guy!
