His songs cover old familiar ground: from long-overdue reconciliation with ex-girlfriends (Not You and Me); to the excitement and sense of discovery with a new lover (Mystery); through to the sharp wake-up call we sometimes get to make more from life (In the Morning). He says there is a lessons-learned theme to all of his writing; and his honest, reflective narrative style coupled with mellow vocals gives these songs an ‘over your shoulder’ warmth and charm, not dissimilar to ‘old school’ singer/songwriters like James Taylor, Cat Stevens and Paul Simon.
Damon is a relative newcomer to the songwriting world. Although he started writing songs in bands in his teens he then spent 15 years in marketing and advertising, and in 2007 he decided to ditch this glossy world to do something more personally rewarding and stripped down. The result is his new demo - Hot Food.
Damon now wants to pursue a career in music. He has built up a catalogue of songs so he hopes to record a debut album in 2010. He’s also performing in London regularly, details of which can be found at www.myspace.com/damondwyer.
Damon cites his main influences are classic songwriters like James Taylor, Paul Simon and Neil Young. There is also an obvious nod to some English acts like The Smiths and Billy Bragg. More recently he has got into acts like Midlake, Iron & Wine, Feist, Fink and Laura Marling.
