Haunted Echo (derived from the lyrics above) is the solo project from New York's producer/programmer, Kris "Halo" Pierce, who creates tracks with rich atmospheric textures and aural landscapes that are often described as movie music.
From Industrial anthems to Chillout lounge to Ambient excursions, one word describes Haunted Echo's music better than any other: Escapism. "Many people come back and tell me, 'It's so easy to get lost in my imagination when I listen to your music.' and that means I succeeded." Beneath the melancholy lies a bed of classical and contemporary music influence. One can hear conversations with Hans Zimmer, Nick Cave, and Rhys Fulber inside synthesizers, moods, and layers of syncopating rhythms. Haunted Echo's first and primary goal is to be as modern as possible while bridging the gap between genres and to destroy the barriers of genre.
Haunted Echo first reared his head on the Cleopatra Records compilation, Black Sunshine: The Tampa Underground and Beyond, in 2001, which included not only three Haunted Echo tracks, but also included three tracks from Pierce’s previous project, Mind Static, with vocalist Wendi Hughes. Mind Static had been extremely successful during the Pierce/Hughes years (1997-2001), with the Bjork/Danny Elfman influenced Darkwave hit, Stillborn, and the epic Trance piece, Nothing, which landed in the Indie movie Web of Darkness. Frustrated with the confines of the genre, he followed up with a limited self-released album, Weaving A Liquid Dream, which detoured from the moodiness and carried a lighter, more dance oriented feel. From that album, the tracks Conscience Sedation and Weaving A Liquid Dream won huge internet support and landed in the Canadian Indie film, Hosers. With his remix of the Watch The Men Fall track, A New Suicide, and the inclusion of both WTMF and HE material on the Bands United compilation, Pierce became an internationally recognized producer. Tired of the Floridian scene, he packed up his bags and moved to New York City to chase impossible dreams.
Aside from making his own music, he graduated from The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences, was apart of the team nominated for a Grammy for Common’s hit single, The Corner, and he’s been at the audio helm for a slew of celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg, Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, Snoop Dogg, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and James Blunt. As a producer, he has worked with Bizzy Bone, Paula Cole, and a handful of Indies. 2006 saw him topping the national college Hip-Hop charts with the charismatic MC, Big Meg, producing "Sweet Radio" and "Africa Welcomes You" for the South African super group, Mikanic, recording and co-producing the internationally acclaimed blackgrass album, "Head Home", for the insanely talented misfits known as O'Death, and helping to develop the rock band, Decembers Fall, into a Myspace phenomenon, proving his talent through diversity.
But the music world hasn’t been his only playground. He was the Production Sound Engineer for the off-broadway hit musical, Altar Boyz, and sound designed the off-broadway shows, Bash'd: A Gay Rap Opera, Songs for a New World, and the premiere Fringe Festival show, China: The Whole Enchilada. Pierce has also had a hand doing ADR work for the Law and Order shows, McDonald’s, Burger King, and Mercedes. And to wrap it all up, he started Halo Askew Entertainment, a multi-media production company focusing on redefining and managing modern entertainment.
Haunted Echo has now finished his latest album, Killing Galileo - the soundtrack to an invisible movie, seen only when one’s eyes are closed. Along with its Hans Zimmer-esque movie scapes, the album also features two tracks with Pierce on vocals, as well as a track with Elaine Benavides of Binary Star System and Resident 51. Killing Galileo mixes melodic strings and horns with otherworldly sounds and rhythms that bring harmonious complexity to the Electronica genre. Once again, Haunted Echo has produced music for the imagination.
