Interpol Lyrics

Rosemary
Heaven restores you in life
You're coming with me
Through the aging, the fearing, the strife
It's the smiling on the package
It's the faces in the sand
It's the thought that moves you upwards
Embracing me with two hands
Right will take you places
Yeah, maybe to the beach
When your friends they do come crying
Tell 'em now your pleasure's set upon slow release

Hey, wait
Great smile
Sensitive to fate, not denial
But hey, whose on trial?

It took a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?

We speaks about travel
Yeah, we think about the land
We smart like all peoples
Feeling real tan
I could take you places
Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van

Hey, wait
Great smile
Sensitive to fate, not denial
But hey whose on trial?

It took a lifespan with no cellmate
By the long way back
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, you are exotic
You need something for which to care
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?

Leave some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan
You've come to love me lightly
Yeah, you've come to hold me tight
Is this motion everlasting
Or do shudders pass in the night?

Rosemary
Oh, heaven restores you in life

I spent a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, semi-erotic
You need someone to take you there
Sandy, why can't we look the other way?
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way?

THis is a much more likely alternative to the |Rosemary West| bogus theory

Rosemary, heaven restores you in life =reborn as a new person in this relationship and with psychedelics

You’re coming with me =will take this good feeling from the psychedelics while the psychedelics lead the singer to new places (like the beech)

Pleasure is set upon slow release=acid last for hours and you can watch other people come up and down on other drugs while you have a lifetime of thoughts moving you upwards.

Hey wait great smile= singers trip has been interrupted by meeting an attractive person

Sensitive to fate= the psychedelics must have brought us together

Not denial= singer is reassuring self that this is not a delusion of synchronicity

But hey whose on trial= singer is reassuring self that he doesn’t need to feel guilty about sandy conflicting with his current relationship with Rosemary

It took a lifespan with no cell mate the long way back= he has been lonely and without a partner for what seems like his entire life

Sandy why can’t we look the other way=asking why they can’t just ignore that he is already in a relationship

He speaks… feeling real tan= they’re at the beach and they’re talking about places and things they want to see, they’re in the moment

I could take… need a new man= he’s asking her to go with him and as later lyrics suggest have sex

Wipe the pollen from the faces= waking up becoming more alive being less sleepy

Make revision… wait in the van=at this point singer is either waiting for sandy in van while she is about to get in and he starts having a side hallucination (which can feel like it last for hours) or she is gone and he starts hallucinating a what if scenario with her. At this point the story is almost entirely a dream/hallucination sequence of events and thoughts

You’re weightless you are exotic=now he is dreaming or hallucinating about sandy

You need something for which to care=he is convincing himself she needs him/and or wants him.

Leave some…inside my hand=they are either having sex or he is masterbating while hallucinating

Is this motion everlasting=will we make love forever/all night

Or do shutters pass through the night=or will it just end with an orgasm

And it keeps going on like this, he is simultaneously feeling guilty about his feelings or actions with two women while rationalizing his thoughts or actions= he is a sentimental jury towards himself and he’s spent an entire life with no cell mate, why can’t we just look the
other way about his sexual indiscretions.

Remember Paul banks said about this song it is about “the art of nearly falling apart”

Okay, so here's a little story about something that happened to me.
I was visiting some relatives in Michigan, and we started bicycling.
Well, they did, I rode a scooter.
Now, I had never gone on a scooter before so it took a while before I got the hang of it, though I did eventually get fairly decent at it.|
They knew how to ride bikes, so they were fast.
Anyways, I started going really fast, and I saw that there was a lowered, steep-ish part of the ground near the sidewalk. Kind of like a hole, but more... natural looking. Kind of like an indent in the ground near the sidewalk.
Anyways, I was leaning towards this indent, and, well, I fell.
The feelings that I felt within the course of around 15 seconds was nothing short of mesmerizing.
First, when I realized I was going to crash into the indent, I felt horrid panic, tingling all over knowing I couldn't stop it.
Then, this feeling (with a little dread mixed in) spiked when I actually leaped off the scooter and fell.
But, when I actually landed, I didn't really feel pain.
Don't get me wrong, it hurt, but it didn't feel like pain. It felt more like tingling, I guess.
I felt, pleasant. I felt like I was floating, or out of my body, I suppose - I felt very calm.
I felt numb, but I could still feel. I had that tingle, and a little bit of the tingle in my ear, but I could still feel. I felt like I could both focus on everything and nothing.
It started hurting afterwards, when this pleasant numbness went away, but that feeling was one I had never felt before. Like shock, i guess.

Anyways, the reason this is relevant to the video for me is because I can picture being in this puppets' shoes, that feeling of shock, and dread, and just all the emotions he felt in general.
I didn't die, and didn't get hurt that bad either, but it's weird how much I can relate to the puppet here.

The only thing scarier than the doll is what this song is actually about

Steveyp

@Doritohead if all thats true then what does the video and the car accident have to do with anything

Vigueras Sosa León Michelle

@Stuntman Mike sandy is a nickname that Fred gave to rosemary, both of em were crazy af, everything, even the murdering was part of a big sex role play

Sbeve Loaf

@John three sixteen I think that both of you are correct in a way.
Both his girlfriends and his decisions lead them to the accident leading them to feel so "Evil" like the criminals referenced in the song.
And the van might be alluding to the fact that our protagonist no longer thinks they can do anything good anymore and will only find purpose in criminality.
