Yeah Yeah Yeahs Lyrics

Pack up
I'm straight
Enough

Oh say, say, say
Oh say, say, say
Oh say, say, say
Oh say, say, say
Oh say, say, say

Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait, they don't love you like I love you

Made off
Don't stray
Well, my kind's your kind
I'll stay the same
Pack up
Don't stray

Oh say, say, say
Oh say, say, say

Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait, they don't love you like I love you

Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait, they don't love you like I love you

Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait, they don't love you like I love you

Wait, they don't love you like I love you
Maps
Wait, they don't love you like I love you

@cobweb 0990 I will paint you imagery.

"pack up. I'm straight. enough. oh say, say, say"
- Imagine some years of your life that you know were hard, like life tends to be. People wanting things from you, people lieing to you, people expecting things of you, you trying to do things the right way but failing because you are learning about life. You get to a point where you are tired, and you aren't mad at life but you are good and you want more out of it. You think you can leave at that point, and start over somewhere new or at least pretend you are somewhere new by cutting bullshit out. That's what these simple words are describing.

"oh say say say. /repeat/. Wait, they don't love you like I love you."
- Most people are dreamers and just talk about their dreams. They never live their dreams because of one reason or another. It's just a lot of talk, or saying things. But those who believe in themselves, they will take off and pursue anything they can get from life. You can feel when that is happening in another person, because you can feel them emotionally detaching. It feels like something is leaving even before they are gone. That's what these simple words are describing.

"maps, wait, they don't love you like I love you."
- This is a desperate call to the one leaving, confessing that the one leaving is the meaning of love to them. So it is a bargaining tactic of grief, pleading for the one to stay because life is an illusion but real love exists there in the heart of the one pleading.

"Made off. Don't stray. Well my kind's your kind, I'll stay the same."
- Think of times where you have had to say goodbye, but you don't see a reason for why you would ever change and you think you can still be close with people even if you are apart. That is usually not true, because life is very hard and our experiences mold us into things we don't always expect we will be. But you go anyways, and you try to hold on to who you are against the pressures of life. But that just isnt easy, so when you do make off people who love you tell you not to stray from who you are. You closest friend, maybe your lover, they love you and promise to try and remain who they are too. But, these will always be promises impossible to keep. That's why it's heartbreaking to say and experience, because life just doesn't work that way. Life changes us.

"Pack up. Don't stray. Oh say, say say."
- This is knowing that its all talk, because life changes us. We can say sweet nothings out of love for each other, but there is no stopping how life will change us. So, we pack up and get going, and we make one last plea to not stray away from who we are. We make that plea to ourselves quietly, and to those we care about who are leaving us or who we are leaving. But we can already feel it, life is whimsically changing us regardless of the things we say. This is the sad beauty of existing, you have to let go. You will always find more to love, and you will have to let go of that too. Life is letting go.

"Wait, they don't love you like I love you. /repeat to end/."
= This is the eternal plea to not have to let go, and to hold on to the beauty that you know from the bond with the other/others that are leaving you or that you are leaving. It will never work, and if it does then it will only be viewed as sacrifice. But you feel and say it anyways, because humans are passionate creatures that feel the sensation of love so deeply that it moves our being. And that is why our lives are so tragic and poetic. We are highly reactive and emotional, so we linger in illusions while trying to simply exist. Thus, we say these types of simple things that mean endless bigger ideas even though we know we can't stop the progression of time and life happening to us.

best wishes. Live well.

Tomorrow is the two year anniversary of my brother passing away. We used to play rockband together on the PlayStation. This was one of the songs. I can’t help but cry and smile when I hear it. Rest In Peace, Colin. ❤️

It was just my one year in July. We always played the song from the bronx. It’s always a tough one when I hear it.

This song pulls feelings out of me I can’t even explain. Longing in the weirdest way. Forever one of my favorites.

Iconic. For some reason I thought this was from the 80's or 90's. This song is one of the best things we've ever made.
