Davis (the J is for Joey) grew up in a musical family in Oklahoma, getting his first drum set (a Ludwig five-piece) at the age of 10, and inheriting a love of jazz/funk fusion and new sounds from his Dad. He has cited sampling pioneers Art Of Noise and Thomas Dolby as inspirations for his electronic pursuits.
Davis's tracks achieve a very unique, natural, and balanced fusion of jazz and electronic elements that transcends the innumerable stylistic subgenres generally associated with jungle.
