Matt Maltese
Themes like the banality and loneliness of life have been consistently weighed heavy on 23-year-old London artist Matt Maltese's records. Following his 2018 debut album "Bad Contestant" and acclaimed 2019 album "Krystal", which endeared him to tastemaker outlets like NME, NPR, Line Of Best Fit, Vice, Interview, DIY, Dork and more, his appropriately titled EP "madhouse" isn't just a score for the everyday boredoms we encounter.

Maltese has always nailed lonesome provocations with idiosyncratic dry wit but "madhouse" reckons with those emotions in a way the half Brittish, half Canadian hasn't yet fully explored until now. "I've found that sometimes the majority of the emotional journey of love and life is actually the search for an understanding of it. And these songs try and make peace with all of that, poke fun at it and, ultimately, embrace it."

As the World Caves In
Matt Maltese Lyrics
My feet are aching
And your back is pretty tired
And we've drunk a couple bottles, babe
And set our grief aside
The papers say it's doomsday
The button has been pressed
We're gonna nuke each other up, boys
'Til old Satan stands impressed
And here it is, our final night alive
And as the earth burns to the ground
Oh, girl, it's you that I lie with
As the atom bomb locks in
Oh, it's you I watch TV with
As the world, as the world caves in
You put your final suit on
I paint my fingernails
Oh, we're going out in style, babe
And everything's on sale
We creep up on extinction
I pull your arms right in
I weep and say, "Goodnight, love"
While my organs pack it in
And here it is, our final night alive
And as the earth burns to the ground
Oh, girl, it's you that I lie with
As the atom bomb locks in
Oh, it's you I watch TV with
As the world, as the world caves
Oh, it's you that I lie with
As the atom bomb locks in
Yes, it's you I welcome death with
As the world, as the world caves in
As the world caves in

Sarah's cover is like the world is about to end. While Matt's original version is where the world already ends.
Humpty Dumpty from Puss n' Boots, a good movie
@Arya Senaputra original is better because of that

Matt's song is really beautiful.

sarah version sucks. This is the real ting

Sarah is more of not accepting death and the stages of grief, This sounds like it when straight to acceptance and I personally prefer it for that reason.

I really do love how this song feels anxious, defeated, and yet accepting. There's nothing that can be done but for them to spend their final moments together. It's knowing the bombs are coming, without a doubt they've been launched, but not knowing how much longer until they hit. There's no use in panicking, it's not comfortable knowing it's coming, but it is comforting to be with somebody you truly love.
Michail or something
Fernanda Santos Didn't the lyrics say they're going out "in" style? I personally interpret the lyrics as how they're presented, they're preparing and suiting each other up for their final day alive together.

i get a whole different picture from this song. to me, there’s something so dramatic about the world ‘caving in’. humanity has spent thousands of years building up to the point at which its at now, but all along we’ve slowly been ticking towards our demise at our own hands. for years, the earth stood unstable, ready to snap, and this is the scenario in which it finally does. all the opportunities humanity had to explore further, to uncover the secrets of the universe, gone. and as the nukes lock in, sealing their fate, it’s like the final act of a play, ending all life in the most sadly ironic way. it’s like an unstable cave being held up by a wooden pole, and the pole finally snapping. and then what remains of the earth is left, dormant, lifeless. no witness remains.
