His sound is melodic, catchy, and uptempo similar to what you hear in pop music while at the same time his songwriting and delivery skills are clearly a form of rap. Being his own producer is the key to Frizo's uniqueness, and makes it difficult for others to recreate his sound, making Frizo truly one of a kind.
Frizo was born on November 2nd 1984 in Racine Wisconsin and like most musicians started his career in a bedroom recording rig. He often ditched out on high school classes for the sake of making music until finally he dropped out of high school altogether. Even at such an early time in his career, he knew exactly what he wanted to do and how he was going to do it.
Instead of graduating with his class in 2004, Frizo teamed up with fellow classmate/friend Andreas Oliver, who also held an interest in making music. But more than making music, Andreas (AO) was interested in the organized distribution of the music. The duo set up a typical, low budget, bedroom recording rig and from there created the local record label, eNicaR Records.
eNicaR Records was something new and fresh to the local hip hop community. From the unique sound of the music, to the willingness to do anything and everything to build awareness. The release of their first album “I Rep Vol. 1” was a success to say in the least. While it was trendy back then for artists to seek consignment deals with local record stores, eNicaR Records took the more aggressive approach by hitting the streets and making one on one sales. This was looked at by many as “obnoxious” and the duo we’re banned from establishments like shopping malls, night clubs, and bars for soliciting. But after selling roughly 1,500 records and landing a feature story in the local press, it was pretty obvious to music lovers that eNicaR Records played a key role in the local music scene.
Frizo’s first solo record was released in 2006, titled “Property Of”. The record was similar to “I Rep Vol. 1” in many aspects, being that it was juvenile sounding, yet well put together. The only real difference to listeners was the all-around progression in the writing, production, and overall quality. But Frizo’s music itself wasn’t all that was progressing at the time. eNicaR Records managed to distribute as many copies as they did with the first album, but instead of taking months, it weeks. Frizo was also invited to perform songs from “Property Of” at the all popular I Rock Club in Detroit, and in Atlanta where he took 2nd place in a showcasing event.
After 3 years of nothing but singles and mixtapes, Frizo released “Behind The Music”. Instantly the record received great press from local sources as well as industry sources, and the track “Thinking Of A Reason” was introduced to radio. Along with the release of the album, eNicaR Records announced the Behind The Music Tour. An independently ran live music series that made over 150 appearances in 35 cities throughout Wisconsin & Illinois. Frizo & AO teamed up with pioneer DJ, DJ Sham, and from there built an amazing live act that attracted many different listeners statewide. They also secured event sponsorships from companies like Miller Brewing co., Specher Brewing co., Bacardi, and more.
In 2010, Frizo signed a deal with L.A. based company, Marlo Productions. Marlo saw Frizo as a fresh player in the hip hop scene because of his unique style, being that he was so much different than a typical rapper. The deal didn’t go far. With a national tour in the making for Frizo’s first release through Marlo, the two ran into the problem of not seeing eye to eye. Shortly after, the contract was mutually dropped.
Since then, Frizo has released his newest work “My Live Show”, which rather than being a full length album, is an EP made up of 14 singles. Songs like “Got A Hater” and “So Special” have been picked up by different DJ’s and included in worldwide syndicated radio shows. eNicaR Records is also in the building stages of their new live music series “The Goood Tour” making on & off appearances and testing different strategies in select markets. Listeners are waiting for Frizo to announce whatever new release he has in the works, and are attending concerts regularly as well. However you look at it, Frizo is an artist who is well developed and portrays the same skill set as most of your world famous artists. With a die hard fan base and an out of this world work ethic, there are no limits for Frizo as an artist, and he makes that apparent displaying solid progression.
