Their 11 year existence has perhaps impacted on the wakening of the UK's underground (bassclub) garage scene. Niche features a variety of songs, ranging from Ace Of Base's "Cruel Summer" to Ne-Yo's "So Sick".
2) Niche was a small-time South African group. They formed early 2006 and was of the progressive rock genre. Notably, they were an acoustic set and never incorporated electric guitars. The band's acoustic sound was reinforced with female vocals. They also featured djembes in their music. The members were heavily influenced by Incubus, Tool, and Jimi Hendrix (among others). They released an EP titled "Change" and recorded it in a single day. This day was also the first time the entire band played together. In fact, on that day, the vocalist (Nina) met the bassist (Pappie) for the first time. The band never performed live although members were involved in various other live performances. They broke up in late 2006.
3) Niche is a five piece band hailing from Savannah, GA. They play 70’s influenced rock with Southern and psychedelic tendencies. The band was formed in 2009 by childhood friends and founding members Justin Dick (guitar/vocals) and Michael Redmond (bass/vocals). The current lineup includes Corey Barhorst (Hammond/synths), Lee Vallier (drums/percussion) and Kristopher Maedke-Russell (guitar/vocals).
What began as a simple three piece rock band has coalesced into a formidable quintet. Dual guitar solos, three part vocal harmonies, layered Hammond organ and synths and a powerful rhythm section fuse together to produce a sound that is both nostalgic and unique. Hints of Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy and Steely Dan can all be heard in their well-crafted songs. The band can best be summed up in the words of Lee Vallier. “I dig being in Niche. It’s fun and fulfilling. It's my family. All of you are my brothers. Nobody does anything close to what we are doing that I know of….Just honest rock n roll. No bullshit.”
Niche has two self-released albums under their belt. “So Be It” and “The Other Side of the End” which were recorded by their good friend Chris “Scary” Adams. In December 2014 Niche went to The Jam Room in Colombia, SC to record their third album with longtime friend Phillip Cope at the helm producing the album. This will be their first release with their current lineup. They are very pleased and excited to announce that the new album will be released on Retro Futurist later this summer. Michael Redmond gave his thoughts about the new release, “The music scene in Savannah has always been a family to me. We work, play, live, love, cry and party together. We help and support each other. I could not be happier that something I’m so proud of will be released by friends and musicians here in Savannah.”
