Alongside his frequent collaborations and side projects, his solo work embraces a wide range of stylings, from the aquatic unease of his 2018 debut "An Empty Hotel" to the wintry wastelands present on his most recent effort "Violent Lives".
Born and raised in southern California, Nikolas Kozik fell deep in to the world of experimental music after discovering the underground scenes surrounding post-rock, black metal, and hardcore punk early in life. During October of 2019 in Idyllwild-Pine Cove, Kozik founded Exit Mask Orkestra with his close friend Tyler DeVeney, releasing an instrumental EP shortly afterwards. Kozik also records under the moniker Hohlgeist, a depressive black metal outfit that combines his ambient explorations with a more harsh and aggressive tonality.
In early 2018, Kozik founded his personal record label Stars Fall Away. Simultaneously functioning as a platform for him to distribute his own work and the projects of his close collaborators, the large majority of the releases on the label are limited edition, physical-only records in very small quantities. The collective's roster as of 2021 includes the likes of Sykeon, This Hour Forever, Lystra, Arms Unravel, Lazarus in Roswell, Exit Mask Orkestra, and Hohlgeist. ~ Eleanor Tomán, Vivian Imprint
