His father is Neyzen Ulvi Erguner (1924-1974) and his grandfather is Neyzen Suleyman Erguner (1902-1953) who are great masters of the Classical Turkish Music for both composition and performance. Grandson Suleyman Erguner learned to play the ney in his childhood – at the age of five- from his father. Since his childhood he participated in Mevlevi rituals in Konya and some special essembles to perform the classical Turkish music. He was graduated from The State Conservatory of the Turkish Music and also from the Marmara University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
In 1975 Erguner passed an exam and began working as a permanent artist in the radio department of the TRT ‘Turkish Radio and Television). He is still performing ney at the TRT and working as the chief of the chorus for the Classical Turkish Music. He is also a lecturer at the İstanbul Technical University Turkish Music Conservatory for both the theory and practice of the classical Turkish music.
Suleyman Erguner participated in concerts of the TRT and some other official organisations and also he participated in the concerts and congress of UNESCO.
Suleyman Erguner wrote a book (Ney Metod) which is unique on the techniques of playing ney. In 1980 he became the head of the Mevlevi Ensemble in İstanbul. In 1995, he founded the Erguner Mevlevi Ensemble.
Süleyman Erguner recorded albums such as Erguner Ensemble Instrumantal-Choeur Musique Turque, Suleyman Erguner Mevlevi Heyeti, Mevlevî “Dervishes Tourneurs ” , Fasil , Enderûn Musique Ottoman , Nefes “Mevlevi-Bektasi” , Harem Ensemble of Istanbul Woman , Sufi Music of Ottoman Court and Tende Canim.
