Their inaugural appearance in public was in December, 1990, along with several other young Ukrainian rock groups, such as "Foma" (later widely recognised as Мандри).
The band eventually emerged as a duo of school mates Vasyl' Tkach (vocal, composition, lyrics, synthesizers) and Ivan Shevchuk (programming, lyrics). They performed romantic yet intelligent pop songs and for its time featured an advanced electronic sound of synthesizers and drum machines.
Songs like A Beautiful Spring (Чиясь чудова весна), Don't Forget (Не зникай), Sick Song (Хвора пісня) were actively broadcasted by "Promin'", a major Ukrainian radio music station of the day (on air since 1992). Also, several times the band appeared on national television with live performances. The last appearance of The Hostilnya on the radio was in spring 1994 in a legendary radio revue "Hot Compote" (Гарячий компот - ukr.), dedicated to Ukrainian electronic music scene, and featured an instrumental techno tune called Pomerancho Blue Horizons. Interestingly, the latter track has mistakenly been attributed to The Hostilnya, but in fact it comes from an unreleased album Back To The Animal Beat by Tkach's short-lived solo project Wasiq.
The band has never released any albums officialy, though there were at least two semi-official releases: "The World Won't Survive" (Svit ne vyzhyve - ukr.) and "Ill-Fitted" (Nepry-100-sovani - ukr.). Recently these releases can be downloaded for free, after a remarkable LiveJournal discussion, dedicated to the memory of The Khostil'nya, featuring comments from both members of the band themselves.
