Historically, The Winstons were a funk and soul music outfit from the 1960s who are most notable for recording a track called "Amen Brother" (a B-side to the single "Color Him Father" edited in 1969). "Amen, Brother" is probably the most sampled record of all time. Midway through the track there is a drum solo which contains the "Amen break" which has been sampled and used in thousands of hip-hop, drum and bass and jungle tracks.
The Winstons were:
* G.C. Coleman (vocals, drums)
* Richard Spencer (lead vocals, tenor saxophone)
* Ray Maritano (vocals, alto saxophone)
* Quincy Mattison (vocals, lead guitar)
* Phil Tolotta (second lead, organ)
* Sonny Peckrol (vocals, bass guitar)

Currently, The Winstons are an Italian psychedelic power trio formed by Roberto Dell'Era (bass), Enrico Gabrielli (electric organ & wind instruments) and Lino Gitto (drums), presenting themselves as Rob, Enro and Linnon Winstons.
The sound of their self-titled debut, released on January 2016, is heavily indebted to the Canterbury scene (especially Wyatt-era Soft Machine), Camel, Gong, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles' psychedelic period, among others. The band is a supergroup bringing together members of various bands, as well as collaborators. The Winstons released their sophomore album, titled Smith, in 2019. It confirms both their penchant for the melodic side of psychedelia and their quirks, such as the occasional song with Japanese lyrics.
Their busy touring schedule include various special projects, such as performing the Pink Floyd albums Animals and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn in their entirety, as well as being the support act for the fall 2022 Italian tour of Japanese psychedelic legends Acid Mothers Temple.
