Stand
Poison Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lies and money become the white man's god
We've burned all our bridges one too many times
The time has come now to draw the line
You know you've got to stand
Stand, stand for what you believe
You know you've got to stand
Stand, stand for what you believe
Oh, you got to stand for what you believe
Alright, alright
You got to listen now
Express yourself in the face of change
Repress yourself, you surely seal your fate
You got to look inside, the answer lies in wait
Resurrect before it's too late
You know you've got to stand
Stand, stand for what you believe
You know you've got to stand
Stand, stand for what you believe
Oh, stand, stand for what you believe
Somebody rescue me, come down and rescue me
I know the soul of a good man has got to be free
When you stand, stand for what you believe
You know you've got to stand
Stand, stand for what you believe
You know you've got to stand
Stand, and I said, stand or what you believe
You know you've got to stand, to stand
Stand for what you believe
So help us to stand, stand
Stand for what you believe
Believers help us stand, yes you do
You know you need to take a stand, well oh yes you do
Come on, come on you believers help us stand
Everybody come on, everybody come on, come on
Everybody come on, everybody come on, come on
Everybody come on, everybody come on
Stand for what you need
The song "Stand" by the American rock band Poison is a call to action for people to stand up for what they believe in. The lyrics point out the prevalence of lies and money in society, and urge listeners to look inside themselves and find the answers they need. The chorus emphasizes the importance of standing up for one's beliefs, regardless of the obstacles one may face.
The first verse is a commentary on the corrupting influence of wealth and power, which often lead people to sacrifice their values and compromise their integrity. The line "Lies and money become the white man's god" refers to the way that money and power can become all-consuming obsessions for people, leading them to ignore the needs and values of others in the pursuit of their own interests.
The second verse is a call to action, urging listeners to express themselves in the face of change and to avoid stifling their feelings and beliefs. The line "Repress yourself, you surely seal your fate" warns listeners that failing to speak up and take action can have dire consequences in the long run. The verse also suggests that the answers to life's problems can be found within oneself, and that it is important to take the time to search within oneself in order to find those answers.
The chorus is a recurring call to action, emphasizing the importance of standing up for one's beliefs and values. The bridge of the song urges others to come to the aid of those who are standing up for what they believe in, emphasizing the importance of collective action in the face of common challenges.
Overall, "Stand" is an anthem of empowerment and action, urging people to take responsibility for their own lives and to stand up for what they believe in.

I'm 56 and this is still my favorite song ever! It means more now than when it was written. Beautiful message in our world today!

Native Tongue is an amazing album IMHO. Production, arrangements, song writing, instruments. It has Kotzen signature all over the place. Still a great joy to listen to.
@gandhiabad9402
I think RK did half of all the songs in the album.

"Native Tounge" was released during the Seattle "Grunge" explosion...So the album didn't get as much credit as it deserved because there was a new Sheriff in town (Kurt Cobain)...Had it been released 2 years earlier things might have been different...But it's a great treasure to listen to, and appreciate it more now.

I mean as a band they really don't have much talent this song i do think is pretty great

@@redhotchilifan98 Have you listened to the whole body of work? In general the music, singers and artists these days are deathly pale in comparison with these guys. At least they have heart and soul mate.
@gradeez
Because they are not so rock n roll, that's why. They're all about looks and a couple of ballads. Look at the rock n roll and wildness of G n R and Motley Crue. I was in my late teens listening to these groups but I was never into Poison. I thought they were so gay.
