My mother passed February 28th, 2022

I picked up a CD a few years ago called Harpestry. It is a collection of harp music by a variety of world renowned artists. It contains an artist named Deborah Henson-Conant performing a song on the Celtic Electroharp called the Nightingale. Just the harp, no singing and I wondered if it had words. It is one of my favorites. It made me think of mom and I often listened to the music on the CD at my office. While on U-Tube the other evening with my sister Penelope, I looked it up and played her vocal chamber version with the words for the first time. It was haunting and beautiful. It confirmed my belief there was more to this song which means more to me now than I could imagine.

You inspire me so much that at the beginning of 2010 I had 6 harp lessons with a great teacher. Unfortunately I had to stop due to cost of transport (an hour and a half by car) lessons (very reasonable price) and harp rental (not so reasonable). However last June after a lot of saving, I finally bought myself a lever harp for my 19th birthday, and I've been trying to teach myself. I believe that I have done well so far without the aid of books etc.
I bought your music "The Nightingale" and I could play the piece from memory within hours. I was so happy. Like this vid, I posted a little mock video of me practicing on Facebook, and my vocal teacher watched it. She was so impressed she asked me to teach her how to play the harp, specifically this piece.
So today I am giving my first harp lesson and I'm so nervous as I don't play to a very high standard, but I'm going to try my best.
I wondered if you could offer me any advice to better myself and to be a good teacher? :)

They do such a great tribute to your song; the cello really adds to the depth and sweetness of the interpretation. Deborah, you have perhaps written one of the most poignant and beautiful songs ever written, to the extent that I'm now working out an arrangement of it for a new kind of instrument I just built. Lets say it is in a guitarish form factor with the expressive elements of a cello or violin. I made this instrument with no idea if it would even work and it has surpassed my most hopeful expectations. When I have finally arranged the acoustic guitar to play the harp part, I'll then work on that wonderful melody you wrote on my new instrument. I'll see about getting a recording to you when I'm done. Thank you for this beautiful song.
