I think it is really up to the listener to determine what they get out of it -- fun, serious, or somehow both. But I would urge you to consider the context in which Ween emerged: 1990s alternative culture. Looking at what musicians of the time said was that they were trying to create a more democratic and tolerant world using their music as a means to do so. And one way they did that was by satirizing those they saw as intolerant or apathetic of music that seemed to express intolerant values.

The best thing about being a Ween fan for years, is you watch them grow skill drastically and diversity in multiple styles accumulated as time goes on. I showed people, who haven't given them a chance since the 90's, a clip of them covering Led Zeppelin's "All of My Love" and i watch these doubters drop their jaws and shit themselves in awe. These guys are revolutionary and a treasure to the music industry and not enough people don't know it. As far as I'm concerned, only people that are not Ween fans are closet fans and the media-ly neglected.

I have found a way to nutrolize impulsive sinophile tendencies of individuals posting YouTube comments. this song just gets funnier every time i listen to it. it's so straightforward. i think of it as a parody/satire of a jimmy buffett song. fun lighthearted steel drum songs about alcohol for middle aged people to get drunk to. except instead of alcohol it's about a hard drug. but still lighthearted and fun and cheesey.

I never said fun things can't say important things. Though, sometimes fun things don't. And it's ok if they don't because not everyone is trying to make these observations. That's the point I was trying to make. It's not a matter of respect for the artist. Also, just because something isn't making observations about society it doesn't mean it's mindless fun. There are lots of great things to pick up on in Ween songs if one is paying attention and their songs do get really emotional sometimes.

I'm pretty sure it's just a fun song, though. Ween were just some really talented dudes getting high and making music. In this album, it was them making nice pop songs. Also, what's the difference between a nazi using music to "bolster" their ideology and band like the Dead Kennedys, besides their beliefs? I honestly think that you're taking some music seriously that's not meant to be. Sometimes songs are just nice to listen to, and that's okay. Not everything needs to be social commentary.
