Victims of Contingency
Epica Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your words are meaningless, as pain fills the void
Hollow words won't hurt no longer
You will regret every life you've destroyed
Blaming the whole world will never make you stronger

Be prepared for the righteous self

If you blame all your failures on someone else
Without any remorse
Without your remorse
If you don't face the weakness of your own self
You will take the same course
You'll take the same course
Your deeds are reasonless, you adore yourself
Empty deeds impress no longer
You will regret everyone you've envied
Blaming it on life will never make you stronger

Be prepared for the confrontation

If you blame all your failures on someone else
Without any remorse
Without your remorse
If you don't face the weakness of your own self
You will take the same course
You'll take the same course
If you blame all your failures on someone else
You avoid every chance
You've lost your last chance
To learn from yourself

If you blame all your failures on someone else
Without any remorse
Without your remorse
If you don't face the weakness of your own self
You will take the same course
You'll take the same course

We can't blame all our failures on someone else
For our own protection
So much to protect
We can't learn from decisions in our own lives
Without self-reflection
We will never flee from contingency

We will never flee from contingency

Overall Meaning

In Epica's song Victims of Contingency, the lyrics convey a message of taking responsibility for one's own actions and not blaming others for failures. The first stanza talks about the emptiness of meaningless words, and how blaming the world won't make one stronger. The second stanza focuses on the righteousness of oneself and the confrontation that awaits when one blames others for their failures without any remorse. The third stanza talks about the need to take accountability for one's deeds and not envy others, and how blaming life won't make one stronger.

The chorus emphasizes the need for self-reflection, to learn from one's own decisions and not blame others for failures. It talks about the importance of protecting oneself by taking responsibility, and not fleeing from uncontrollable situations (contingencies).

The lyrics of "Victims of Contingency" suggest that blame is a destructive force that ultimately leads to regret and weakness. Instead, taking ownership of one's own actions and learning from past mistakes is the key to becoming stronger and more resilient in the face of contingencies.

@evasl

+Ricardo Martinez You are right! I really like to have the physical albums...it's a pleasure, but you know, little profit from the album purchases really goes to the bands now...the record companies!!!!!! And I'm suffering a bit right here with this...I was living in a rented room and my landlord entered it one time and took things indiscriminately.... I even had "The Score" ... I had signed things!!!!! Signed albums even from KORN from when I was really young... Fortunately. Epica are easy going people and easy to be with and an album that he left behind "The Obsessive Devotion" was signed again...I only have three albums from Epica now!

I had countless CDs . . . countless! Books...countless! Vinyl . . . a little tv my grandpa gave me, I don't even watch tv...but it was my grandpa's.... My father's Zippo...All I had from my father!!!!!!!!!!! A lighter...my gosh!!!!!! And fortunately my bass and my bagpipes weren't there nor other percussion instruments from the band, I was out playing and the bass was with a friend!.... but lost other instruments...flutes... No justice was made. Nothing!!!!! I'm lucky I have this pc made of dead pc's!

I will never buy another CD. And maybe...not even a book....

And now I can't play anymore, I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia ( a lot of pain...government doesn't care....I'm poor as a poor can be....) I put some money aside for the live concerts and I don't fuckin' care about the pain when I go to the concerts because those are the best fuckin' days of my life!!!!! And I contribute to my beloved bands that way!!!!!

and THANKS EPICA FOR SIGNING MY CD AGAIN!

@dfreeman13

Yes.

@Clarity_of_Light

Epica shows once again how talented they are. Fantastic instrumentals and Simone is great as always, I hope they never change the main vocalist! This is exactly how symphonic metal should be like. Not pop-rock like many other sympho bands have turned into. I hope they keep going in this path. Symphonic, Beautiful yet Brutal.

@user-ii6gm4vj5b

Sirenia are still keeping it up.
