Moldovan music is closely related to that of its neighbour and cultural kin, Romania. Moldovan folk is known for swift, complex rhythms (a characteristic shared with many Eastern European traditions), musical improvisation, syncopation and much melodic ornamentation.
Pop, hip hop, rock and other modern genres have their own fans in Moldova as well. Modern pop stars include O-Zone, a Romanian and Moldovan band whose "Dragostea din tei" was a major 2004 European hit, guitarist and songwriter Vladimir Pogrebniuc, Natalia Barbu, who is well-known in Germany, Romania and Ukraine, and Nelly Ciobanu. The band Flacai became well-known in the 1970s across Moldova, turning their hometown of Cahul into an important center of music.
Videli noci
Zdob Si Zdub Lyrics

Cand in toate ferestrele
S-au stins luminele
Una dupa alta,
Noi vedeam cum
Pleaca ultimul tramvai,
Merg taxiurile,
Dar noi nu avem cu ce plati
Si motiv pentru a merge cu ele nu avem,
Noi ne plimbam singuri.
Pe casetofonul nostru
S-a terminat pelicula -
Deruleaza!
Am vazut noaptea,
Ne-am plimbat toata noaptea
Pana-n dimineata!!!!!
Intra in cabina cu telefon,
Spune sa inchida usa
In apartamentul tau,
Scoate-ti incaltamintea,
Noi vom merge desculti.
Sunt tigari, chibrituri
Si o sticla de vin,
Si ea ne va ajuta
Sa asteptam,
Ne va ajuta sa credem
Ca toti dorm
Si noi suntem aici doar in doi...
The lyrics of Zdob Si Zdub's song "Videli noci" describe a night walk taken by the singer and their companion after all the lights in the windows had gone out. As they watched the last tram depart and taxis passed them by, the singer and their companion walk aimlessly, unable to pay for a ride and with no particular destination in mind. The cassette tape they were listening to reaches the end of the film and the singer decides to rewind it, signaling a sense of continuation.
As the night went on, they wander and discover more about the city, until they come across a public phone booth where they decide to step in. The caller asks the person on the other end of the line to close their apartment door to avoid being heard, and they both remove their shoes, continuing the night barefooted. They find cigarettes, matches and a bottle of wine, which they share. With these items, they settle down to wait, convinced that everyone else is asleep while they're the only ones awake, together.
The lyrics evoke a sense of freedom, escape and independence that comes with the anonymity of the night, where people can let their inhibitions go and explore the world around them without fear of judgment. The singer and their companion are in search of their own experiences, not relying on anyone but each other for support.

Hoping to translate the lyrics with a proper sense (very sweet lyrics-poetry)
I'VE SEEN THE NIGHT
"We left the house
when the lights in all the windows
went out one by one.
We saw the last tram leaving the taxi rides,
but we have nothing to pay
and we have no reason to go,
we walk alone.
Our cassette has run out the film.
Rewind it!
Seen the night,
walked all night until the morning.
Go to the phone booth,
tell them to close the door in your apartment.
Take off your shoes,
we will walk barefoot;
there are cigarettes,
matches, a bottle of wine
and she helps us to wait,
helps to believe
that everyone is sleeping
and we are here together.
Seen the night,
walked all night until the morning.
walked all night until morning".
