Somebody Else
The 1975 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So I heard you found somebody else
And at first, I thought it was a lie
I took all my things that make sounds
The rest I can do without

I don't want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else
Our love has gone cold
You're intertwining your soul with somebody else
I'm looking through you while you're looking through your phone
And then leavin' with somebody else
No, I don't want your body
But I'm picturing your body with somebody else

I don't want your body, I don't want your body
I don't want your body, I don't want your body
I don't want your body, I don't want your body
I don't want your body, I don't want

And come on, baby (I know)
This ain't the last time that I'll see your face
And come on, baby (I know)
You said you'd find someone to take my place
I just don't believe that you have got it in you
'Cause we are just gonna keep doin' it
And every time I start to believe in anything you're saying
I'm reminded that I should be getting over it

I don't want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else
Our love has gone cold
You're intertwining your soul with somebody else
I'm looking through you while you're looking through your phone
And then leaving with somebody else
No, I don't want your body
But I'm picturing your body with somebody else

I don't want your body, I don't want your body
I don't want your body, I don't want your body
I don't want your body, I don't want your body
I don't want your body, I don't want your body, I

Get someone you love?
Get someone you need?
Fuck that, get money
I can't give you my soul 'cause we're never alone
Get someone you love?
Get someone you need?
Fuck that, get money
I can't give you my soul 'cause we're never alone
Get someone you love?
Get someone you need?
Fuck that, get money
I can't give you my soul 'cause we're never alone
Get someone you love?
Get someone you need?
Fuck that, get money
I can't give you my soul 'cause we're never alone

I don't want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else
(I don't want your body)
Our love has gone cold
You're intertwining your soul with somebody else
(I don't want your body)
I'm looking through you while you're looking through your phone
And then leaving with somebody else
(I don't want your body)
No, I don't want your body
But I'm picturing your body with somebody else
(I don't want your body)

(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)
(I know)

Overall Meaning

"Somebody Else" is a song by the British pop rock band The 1975, which was released as a single in 2016. The song details the feelings of jealousy, heartbreak, and longing after finding out that a former lover has moved on to someone else. The singer expresses that they do not want to be with the other person anymore, but they still feel hurt by the thought of them being intimate with someone new. The lyrics highlight the emptiness the singer feels and their inability to move on from their past relationship.

One of the most powerful aspects of the song is the contrast between the upbeat, danceable music and the melancholy lyrics. The cheerful melody creates an ironic juxtaposition with the sad lyrics and serves as a metaphor for the facade of happiness people sometimes put on when trying to mask their pain.

Overall, "Somebody Else" is a raw and honest portrayal of the complex emotions that can arise after a break-up. The lyrics are both vulnerable and relatable, and the catchy melody makes the song both poignant and memorable.

This song, and this band in general, makes me want to go lay on the roof at 2 am and just — breathe.

@rubyreloaded9371

BulletSnail no it isn't.

***** How so?

@rubyreloaded9371

***** Well I mean, I find this nice because I actually do this. I climb on the roof of my house at night and listen to music. Contemplate about life. All that stuff. Maybe you should try it? It's quite theraputic actually.

Emily ships phan lmao tru

Yes, I love meaningless bullshit, because it gives you the chance to be happy over small and insignificant, yet beautiful things in life. Yes, I also love Indie bands and I also use tumblr. No, i'm not a liberal snowflake. I'm a fascist.

I think this is a very unique song. It captures the point after an ended relationship where you don't necessarily want to get back together but it still bothers you when they move on.

excellent point, i love your interpretation! tbh i never really looked at the song that way, having my own "analysis" in mind and seeing it all from my own point of view. namely, i see it from the perspective of somebody regretting not having given a potential relationship a try, or nor acting on it, and then saying i don't want your body, i rather want your soul, i miss your company now that the time has passed and we didn't try to make things work out.

@Isabel-wf1gj

oh interesting! I never thought of it that way

@starcraft697

Wow! Nice thought to it, especially the wanting the soul part.
