Mary On A Cross
Ghost Lyrics

But besides all the stardom, all we got was blues
But through all the sorrow, we've been riding high
And the truth of the matter is I never let you go, let you go
We were scanning the cities, rocking to pay their dues
But besides all the glamour, all we got was bruised
But through all the sorrow, we've been riding high
And the truth of the matter is I never let you go, let you go
You go down just like Holy Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
Not just another bloody Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
If you choose to run away with me
I will tickle you internally
And I see nothing wrong with that
We were searching for reasons to play by the rules
But we quickly found it was just for fools
Now through all the sorrow, we'll be riding high
And the truth of the matter is I never let you go, let you go
You go down just like Holy Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
Not just another bloody Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a
You go down just like Holy Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
Your beauty never ever scared me
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
If you choose to run away with me
I will tickle you internally
And I see nothing wrong with that
(Mary on a, Mary on a cross)
Nothing wrong with that
(Mary on a, Mary on a cross)
Nothing wrong with that
(Mary on a, Mary on a cross)
(Mary on a) Mary on a cross
The song "Mary on a Cross" by Ghost is a tribute to a woman who is compared to Holy Mary, the mother of Jesus, who was crucified on a cross. The lyrics depict a relationship between two people who have gone through struggles together but have remained strong. Despite the hardships, they have not let go of each other. The opening lines of the song suggest that they have been through difficult times, and the words "besides all the stardom, all we got was blues" suggest that despite their success, they have still faced challenges. However, despite these challenges, they are still "riding high." The chorus is where the song gets its title, "Mary on a Cross," which ties into the imagery of the lyrics. The verses talk about their journey through life, how they have been bruised but ultimately continued on together. The lyrics "We were searching for reasons to play by the rules, But we quickly found it was just for fools" suggest that they have decided to do things their own way rather than following societal norms.
The bridge of the song features the line "If you choose to run away with me, I will tickle you internally," which is a playful way of expressing the deep love and connection between two people. The lyrics continue to speak about the beauty of the woman, using the metaphor of Holy Mary. The song ends with the repetition of the phrase "Mary on a cross," emphasizing the theme of the song.
Overall, "Mary on a Cross" is a passionate and heartfelt track that speaks of the depth of a relationship and the hardships that come along with it. The use of religious imagery adds weight to the message of the song, while the chorus provides a memorable and powerful hook.

We were speeding together down the dark avenues
We were driving with a purpose down the unknown, desolate streets
But besides all the stardom, all we got was blues
Despite our fame and fortune, we still felt unhappy
But through all the sorrow, we've been riding high
Despite the pain we have endured, we continue to be successful
And the truth of the matter is I never let you go, let you go
I have always been devoted to you and have never let you slip away from me
We were scanning the cities, rocking to pay their dues
We were traveling from town to town, playing shows to earn our keep
But besides all the glamour, all we got was bruised
Although we looked and acted glamorous, we still got hurt
You go down just like Holy Mary
You fall as easily as the Virgin Mary on the cross
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
In the same manner as Mary, in her crucifixion
Not just another bloody Mary
You are not just another drink, but something more meaningful
If you choose to run away with me
If you decide to leave with me
I will tickle you internally
I will bring you joy and make you happy from the inside out
And I see nothing wrong with that
I believe it is good for us to be happy together
We were searching for reasons to play by the rules
We were trying to find justification to follow society's expectations
But we quickly found it was just for fools
But soon we realized it was meaningless and foolish
Your beauty never ever scared me
I was never intimidated by your beauty
Nothing wrong with that
There is nothing negative or immoral about it

The fact that Ghost time traveled back to 1969 to film an authentic music video for one of my favorite songs, which they also made, is just awesome.
@thefuzzman
No no no. The original Ghost was formed in '69 by Papa Nihil and the EP Seven Inches of Satanic Panic was recorded, but he knew the world wasn't ready for them, so they went into hiding until 2010, when he felt the world was ready. The girl in green is Sister Imperator and she has an affair with Papa Nihil, and gives birth to who would become Cardinal Copia and Papa Emeritus IV.
@gombka1144
@@thefuzzman yes, and now they recovered a live concert tape from 1969. Thats incredible, they were so underground that there's no to little videos of them from that time
@vi9238
@@gombka1144 Hi new fan here. I am still little confused about this part. If this band was formed in 1969 and all papas are played by Tobias Forge, wouldnt he be much much older then he is now? That being said, he took the concept of the original band Ghost which was underground at that time (not much of evidence to find about them) and now he is continuing they lore? I am so confused about the video taken at ยด69 and the band now. Who is the real Ghost and what is the diferrence betweeen current and previous one.
@adamriggs2698
@@vi9238o, the band was formed around 2010, but the lead singer dresses up as different โpapasโ who are all different characters. This is the fictional papa โpapa nihilโ who was papa back in the 60s in the ghost universe.
