Call Me
Skyy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sittin' here
Couldn't help hear you talkin' to your best friend
Say, you're not satisfied
Things ain't workin' out with your girlfriend

So your searchin' for someone new
Someone to hold you tight, someone to treat you right
Though your girlfriend's a friend of mine
Here's my number and a dime, call me anytime

(Call me) If you need someone to talk to
(Call me) Satisfaction guaranteed
(Call me) If you need someone to talk to
(Call me) Call me!

Hello, how ya doin'?
No, she's gone
I figured I'd give you a call and see if you were serious

When?

Like to hear what the others talk about
Just me and you
You know, I got this little place that I like to go to
It's kinda dark and quiet and

Well, I been watchin' you boy
And I've got what you want, got what you need
Though your girlfriend's a friend of mine
Here's my number and a dime, call me anytime

(Call me) If you need someone to talk to
(Call me) Satisfaction guaranteed
(Call me) If you need someone to talk to
(Call me) Call me!

She doesn't treat you
What she used to do
She doesn't treat you
Like she used to do, no

Here's my number and a dime
He used to call me anytime
Here's my number and a dime
Call me anytime, yeah, yeah

She doesn't do to you
What she used to
She doesn't do to you
What she, what she, what she used to do, no

(Call me)
(Call me)
(Call me)
(Call me)

(Call me)
(Call me)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Skyy's song "Call Me" depict a woman overhearing a man conversing with his friend about his dissatisfaction in his current relationship. She sees this as an opportunity to offer herself as a potential alternative and gives the man her number, telling him to call her anytime. The lyrics are an extension of the typical "girl steals guy from another girl" trope that is seen in many songs. However, there is an interesting power dynamic at play in this song, as the woman is not actually initiating contact with the man, but rather is offering herself up as an option after overhearing his conversation.

The lyrics also express a sense of confidence and control on the part of the woman. She knows what the man is looking for and is positioning herself as the perfect solution to his problems. She also alludes to a more intimate and secluded setting for them to be together, suggesting that she has already thought through every detail of their potential relationship. Overall, the lyrics to "Call Me" are a bold declaration of desire and are indicative of the era in which they were written.

Who would have guessed that 20 years after listening to this song for the first time.... I'd ACTUALLY be living the words...... The ONLY difference is that it was my SO-CALLED "GIRLFRIEND" who SLIPPED her number to MY BOYFRIEND!!!!

Well the only thing i can say is " THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!!!" because not ONLY did she help me dodge a BULLET.... HELL she helped me dodge the WHOLE ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because AFTER things DIDN'T work out with HER.... He had the BLAZING AUDACITY to TRY and come back to ME!!!!

NO THANK YOU!!!!!! I dont care how SHORT it was with HER and How LONG it was with ME!!!! I was BETRAYED BY 2 PEOPLE I THOUGHT I LOVED and SUPPOSEDLY LOVED ME!!!! Guess i was WRONG!! WRONG!!!! OH SO WRONG!!!!!!!!

And I didn't cry over SPILLED milk.......

I just WIPED it UP and POURED me ANOTHER GLASS!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

PLUS I HEARD THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE THAT his life went so far DOWNHILL when he left me.... That not even Smokey Robinson's MIRACLES could HELP HIM BACK UP!!!!!!! LOL

Here in 2023 still loving the β€˜80s vibes! πŸ₯° Love that Queen Latifah had this put in her movie β€˜Beauty Shop’!

There needs to be a time machine so I can experience the 80s. Girl coming from 1993!!

@kimmieh8419

Born in β€˜73, and I love hearing people who were born later than β€˜90 want to actually see what the β€˜80s were about! πŸ‘πŸ€—
So much went on with the music, fashion, and let’s not forget the hairstyles! πŸ˜‚ But I wouldn’t have wanted to be born in any other time! I had an awesome childhood! Actually, β€˜73-β€˜98 were all amazing some way or another! Not saying I haven’t enjoyed the last 25 years! At 25 I went from a single, care-free girl, to a committed, fun-loving partner to a great man, then the last 25 years have been OUR life together. πŸ₯°
I do wish you could go back and see what I’m talking about. It was a great time! πŸ€—

I was lucky enough to experience the 80's. I want that time machine just so I can go back and do it all over again... 😁

@misterb7070

So underrated and overlooked in the late 70s and early 80s, such a great band

@yal100

This song, "Meeting in the ladies room" - Klymax and "In My House" - Mary Jane Girls...are just so addictive and danceable tracks. I challenge you to not start singing when you listen to them πŸ˜€

@chrismacks3640
