The band was formed in Kurgan, Russia in 1996. The original lineup consisted of Дмитрий Порубов (Dmitriy Porubov) aka Feo (vocal, guitar), Андрей Ефимов (Andrey Efimov), Анатолий Качарин (Anatoliy Kacharin) and late (1997)Алексей Кинерейш (Alexey Kinereish)(equipment).
In 1998 Психея was reformed by Dmitriy Porubov. In new lineup was Игорь Статных (Igor Statnih) aka Kita (loops), Alexey Kinereish(from first lineup; drums), Андрей Зырянов (Andrey Ziryanov) aka Azz (initially bass guitar; vocal, percussion, loops). A lot of concert made group to find Александр Яковлев (Alexander Jakovlev) aka Voron for stage assistance.
In 1999 they invited Андрей Оплетаев(Andrey Opletaev aka Slesar') to play bass guitar and in 2000 the band finally moved to St. Petersburg, Russia.
In 2001 drummer was changed to Вячеслав Галашин (Vyacheslav Galashin) aka Slavon. In 2004 lineup was completed with Евгений Лурье (Evgeniy Lur'e) aka DJ Jenya(scratch)
Kita left the band in 2007 and became involved in a new project PROдукты24 with Azz (although Azz is still a member of Психея).

The lyrics of Психея's song Революция себя convey feelings of pain, fear, and a sense of losing oneself. The first verse describes a wound that is bleeding and the singer is feeling sick. The second describes the attempt to find oneself by erasing their name and searching within oneself, but finding only an internal desert. The chorus alludes to a revolution within oneself, where the singer and the person they address will disappear and become indistinguishable from each other. The third verse describes a feeling of being both far away and close, both high and low, and soon becoming a stranger. The final stanza laments how nobody will remember or help and how the heartbeat of the heart fades away.
