Members:
Koumoto Hiroto (甲本ヒロト) – Vocal
Mashima Masatoshi (真島昌利) – Guitar
Shirabe Sakito (調先人) – Bass
Oshima Kenji (大島賢治) – Drums
Shirai Mikio (白井幹夫) – Keyboard
This lineup remained intact until 2003, when keyboardist Shirai Mikio left the band. The following year ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓ cut their ties to Universal Music, and Koumoto and Mashima formed HAPPYSONG RECORDS, their very own record label with ties to BMG Japan, which has since distributed their releases. After announcing their disbandment in late 2005, Koumoto and Mashima decided to form another punk rock band together, and ended up naming it ザ・クロマニヨンズ (The Cro-Magnons).

The lyrics to ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓'s song モンシロチョウ convey a sense of frustration and boredom with the monotony of life. The repeated lines "モンシロチョウ キャベツ畑" (Monshirochou, cabbage field) seem to serve as a metaphor for a mundane and uneventful existence.
The first verse questions whether it would be better to strip down and expose one's vulnerabilities or to act impulsively in order to overcome the tediousness of mere existence. It reflects a desire for something more exciting and meaningful than just going through the motions.
In the second verse, the lyrics criticize individuals who are nosy and overly curious about others' lives. It laments the increase in gossip-loving, meddlesome women. The singer then mentions suffering from a severe cough and asks for codeine, perhaps indicating a desire to escape or numb the dissatisfaction with life.
The subsequent lines mention the excitement of a potential third world war, with a sense of anticipation and eagerness for chaos. It sarcastically dismisses those who preach about being kind to the earth, as the singer believes it is unnecessary interference. The comparison between dolphins and whales, and forests and ozone, suggests that the singer sees more importance in the impending conflict.
Overall, the song seems to express a frustration with the banality of everyday life and a longing for something more thrilling. It criticizes societal norms and rejects the idea of living harmoniously with nature, instead embracing the excitement and chaos that a third world war may bring.
