Mashima Masatoshi (真島昌利) – Guitar

Shirai Mikio (白井幹夫) – Keyboard
This lineup remained intact until 2003, when keyboardist Shirai Mikio left the band. The following year ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓ cut their ties to Universal Music, and Koumoto and Mashima formed HAPPYSONG RECORDS, their very own record label with ties to BMG Japan, which has since distributed their releases. After announcing their disbandment in late 2005, Koumoto and Mashima decided to form another punk rock band together, and ended up naming it ザ・クロマニヨンズ (The Cro-Magnons).

The lyrics of ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓'s song "二匹のマシンガン" speak about the transformation of precious gems of the night into fossils, and the laughter that accompanies this change. The two machine guns mentioned in the lyrics symbolize a relentless and fierce energy. The line "夢見心地のままでは夢はつかめない" implies that dreams cannot be achieved by simply being lost in a dreamy state. It suggests that one must take action and be proactive in order to pursue and capture their dreams.
The repetition of the phrase "二匹のマシンガン" throughout the song emphasizes the intensity and power of these machine guns, representing a relentless drive towards their goals. The lyrics suggest that even if the world around them may appear chaotic or hostile ("悪魔は叫ばない ささやいているだけ"), the two machine guns continue to flow and move forward, undeterred. They quietly and steadily progress one step at a time ("ただそっと一人ずつ 一匹ずつにただそっと").
The mention of Adam and Eve portrays a biblical reference to the first humans, suggesting that the two machine guns represent the end or culmination of their story. If Adam and Eve were the beginning, then the two machine guns are the end. The lyrics further illustrate this idea by comparing the sin of Adam to an apple and themselves to a record. This comparison suggests that they carry the weight of their own mistakes and experiences but continue to move forward, like a record that keeps spinning and playing.
In summary, the lyrics of "二匹のマシンガン" by ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓ convey a sense of determination and relentless pursuit of dreams. It encourages the listener to take action and not be content with simply dreaming. The repetition of the phrase "二匹のマシンガン" emphasizes their fierce drive, and the biblical references suggest that they are the culmination of a journey, carrying their own burdens and experiences as they move forward.
