Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
These lyrics are from パスピエ's song "蜘蛛の糸" (Spider's Thread). The song explores themes of deception, manipulation, and the desire to break free from control.
In the first paragraph, the lyrics reflect on the changing colors of a camellia flower, questioning what color it will ultimately become. This metaphor represents the uncertainty and fear of constantly transforming and adapting to different situations. The line "まさかさかさま逆立ちしても敵わないよ" (Even if I stand on my head, I won't be a match) suggests that no matter how much effort is put into trying to overcome challenging circumstances, it may still be futile. The mention of keeping secrets implies a hidden path leading to an eternal world.
The second paragraph repeats the phrase "何度も何度も手を伸ばす" (Reaching out countless times) to emphasize the persistent attempts to grasp onto something intangible. The "蜘蛛の糸" (spider's thread) is mentioned as something dropped by another person, symbolizing their manipulative influence. The line "最後の最後で笑えりゃいい" (It would be good to laugh at the very end) suggests that finding humor or liberation in the face of adversity might be a desirable outcome. However, the mention of the distant opposite shore implies that true freedom may still be far away. The lyrics also question whether one is foolish for not being able to break the strings that control them or wise for seeing through the puppetry.
The repetition of "何度も何度も手を伸ばす" in the third paragraph highlights the persistent desire to reach out despite setbacks. The line "引いても引いてもまだ着かぬ" (Even if I pull, I still can't reach) expresses the frustration of constantly striving without achieving the desired goal. This world is described as "常世の国" (the eternal world), suggesting that the struggle to break free from manipulation and control is the essence of existence.
The final paragraph echoes the sentiments and questions from the previous paragraphs. The mention of the "カラクリ芝居" (mechanical puppet show) implies the ability to see through deceptive performances, while the reference to the "利口" (clever) suggests a desire for wisdom and understanding. The lyrics express a sense of resignation, as the line "どうなったっていいの" (It doesn't matter what happens) implies a detachment from the outcome. The song ends by portraying life as a story that spreads across the transient world, indicating that the struggles depicted in the lyrics are part of a larger narrative.
