Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
These lyrics are from the song "beer to pudding" by レミオロメン. The song portrays a scene where the singer is in a hurry to go to the convenience store, asking their partner to quickly prepare dinner. They confess their appetite and desire for beer, acknowledging their own selfishness and asking for forgiveness.
In the first paragraph, the singer rushes to the convenience store while asking their partner to quickly make dinner. They express that they are hungry and also want to have beer, and they ask for their partner's understanding despite their selfishness. This sets the tone for the song, showcasing the singer's impatience and craving for food and drink.
In the second paragraph, the singer hurries back home on a bicycle borrowed from their partner. Although the distance may be short, the season's cold weather makes their extremities numb. This illustrates the physical discomfort they endure while rushing to get back. Meanwhile, their partner takes their time tasting the food they are cooking.
The third paragraph continues the theme of the cold weather, as the singer rushes into the room seeking warmth. Their partner turns to them, welcoming them home and teasing them about the cold. This interaction shows their deepening connection and the comfort they find in each other's presence.
The fourth paragraph begins with the singer taking beer and pudding out of a bag and placing the pudding on the table. The lyrics suggest that the singer has not cleaned up the empty cans, wondering if their partner is still angry about it. They engage in playful banter, with the partner questioning why the singer brought the items and joking that they are not responsible for any potential weight gain. The singer opens the lid of the pudding while the partner simply drinks the beer, emphasizing their relaxed and comfortable dynamic.
The song reflects on the desire for a lasting and happy relationship between the singer and their partner. They express a wish to always be able to laugh together, acknowledging that there may be minor conflicts along the way. However, they contemplate the impending departure day, and the sadness it brings. Despite both parties trying to suppress their loneliness, it becomes evident that they are both forcing themselves. The lyrics introduce a sense of bittersweetness and a longing for a prolonged moment in time. The final lines suggest that turning on the TV or hearing the microwave beep doesn't bring much appeal, and instead, they contemplate having dinner together if the partner returns. The repetition of "ラララララ ララ ララララララ" at the end adds a melodic touch to the song, leaving a lingering sense of wistfulness.
