Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The song "帰って来た女" or "The Woman Who Came Back Home" by 中尾ミエ is a beautiful and poignant ballad that tells the story of a woman who returns to her hometown by the harbor after experiencing sadness and heartache in the big city. The lyrics are filled with vivid imagery and metaphors that describe the woman's emotional journey and the feelings of nostalgia and longing that come with her return.

The first stanza sets the scene on a foggy dock where the woman's dreams sway back and forth like boats that are anchored. The woman is a sad fish that has swam too far in the bright neon sea of the city and now finds herself tired and weary. The chorus reveals that she has returned home to the harbor, and the repetition of "そうよ そうなの" ("That's right, that's how it is") emphasizes her certainty and confidence in her choice to come back.

The second stanza gives us some insight into the reason for her return, which appears to be related to a failed relationship with a deceitful man in the heartless world of Tokyo. She has learned to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of her hometown, and her return is a way to heal the loneliness and sadness that she has experienced. The third and final stanza suggests that despite her tears and heartbreak, she is hopeful for the future and holds onto the promise of spring and new beginnings.

Overall, "帰って来た女" is a touching and evocative song that captures the bittersweet emotions of returning home after facing adversity in the world. The vivid imagery and metaphors make it a timeless classic that still resonates with listeners today.
